- I have a farm and we just decided to add chickens. When I saw the price of a chick at over $5 each, I decided to raise my own after acquiring around 8-10 baby chicks and of course one rooster. Thinking about Rhode Island Red hens and would like a bantam rooster. I remember being flogged by "Pete" our Rhode Island Red as a kid and it hurts. Want a Bantam because I have been flogged by one of them also, not hardly as bad as a Rhode Island Red.
