I checked the crop this morning, and it went down slightly. I don't feel the food it anymore, but it is still big and squishy. But she is still eating and drinking and acting normal. As for perching she is usually out and about and not really sitting one place for a long period of time except...
Hi All,
I have a Black Australorp who is almost a year old. For the last few weeks she's been very slowly losing feathers and her back feathers are very frayed. Her chest also has dry skin peeling off, is bare, and is a bit red. She has feather loss on her neck, head, and chest. But has pin...
Hi All -
We got three chickens exactly 10 months ago (March 2023) - a cream legbar, a blue australorp, and a black australorp. The black and blue australorps began laying in September and October, but the cream legbar has not started laying yet. She has a bright red comb, but doesn't squat. We...

Hi -
Thanks for responding! It feels like pellets and grit from our sand run. I can literally feel the texture when I massage around. She has been drinking water on her own and will also take some with a syringe.
Given that it has been 48 hours and the crop is still the same size, is surgery...
Hi,
One of our hens, about 8 months old, was very lethargic on Friday morning. She's been separated from the flock and is staying inside with us since then. I noticed that her crop was hard, and the size of a baseball. She was acting normal as of Wednesday. The crop feels hard, but I can feel...
I am updating this thread, our Black Australorp (Sprout), despite showing initial signs of being a cockerel, has laid her first egg at 22 weeks! She also has a massive comb which is probably why her comb was red and large after only 6 weeks
