2 weeks ( 15 days) old chick found dead

My husband was out at the brooder this morning, chicks all good. I came home from work to find one dead. just laying there about a foot from the heat light. I keep an eye on their butts. Her Butt was fine. Lots of room in the brooder and the heat is good. She was a good size pullet. She had been...

Eggs rolling around during lock down

We just did 42 eggs. Went into lock down with 31. Had them up right till lock down. All piped, all but one zipped. I helped one at the end. Only had the one die. Most of them pip on the bottom. I could make something out of sticks or something for next time. I did feel bad how many got kicked...

Eggs rolling around during lock down

I read someplace that some people do lock down with egg cartons. I like the idea of the eggs not rolling around. I would prefer something on its side not standing up. Was hoping people could show me what they do. Thanks!

We are going to leave the last 3 with food and water in the incubator to see if it improves. It has been doing better since I removed...

    Too many in incubator?

Cold and snow is all good when you know how to deal with it. Some days it creates a challenge. Its been a cool spring here, and a dry winter. We needed it. Just not last night, but that how it works.

    Too many in incubator?

How this happens, is my husband does them and I fix them. They are his chickens. One day I may learn and fix them before he does them. I dont really want the chicks in my house. They make a big mess. Its is chilli out side still. ( northern Canada) I have the thermometer in the brooder. Taking...

    Too many in incubator?

So what is going to be the best way to move them to the brooder ? I have the incubator in the house and the brooder outside. I did go turn the heat lamp on. I will at the very least pull the shells out. I could warm up the hearing pad, or hot water bottle. Really did not think this one through. lol

    Too many in incubator?

I am sure its been asked, but I will do it again. We have our 1st incubator. It holds 42. We are down to 31. 1st one hatched last night at 1 am. I have 11 almost 12 right now. Its chaotic in the incubator. Chicks crashing eggs, chicks stepping on new borns. I am worried about the chicks. I know...
