We have 3 welsh harlequin's - 1 drake and 2 ducks. I hatched them last spring. Lovely temperament, great layers, look good! I did the research and am pleased with my choice. They are great pets!
Sorry if this post has already been done - please feel free to signpost me. I've found out that recent bird flu cases are 55 miles away from where I live, another 75 miles so feeling very anxious. Can anyone advise on what disinfectant I should be using for the foot baths please? I want to start...
Hi all - just to let you know, Rebeccah seems fine today. I don't think she's laid. There was only one egg this morning and I'm guessing that was from Jemima. Although I think Rebeccah laid the 2 soft shell eggs yesterday so may not get one from her today. Will keep up with the calcium and...
Ah that makes sense. Can I ask one more question. Is it normal for her to lay 2 soft eggs? Will all this regulate when she gets a bit older? Sorry for all the questions!!
Haha I don't care what colour my ducks are as long as they are healthy!
How on earth do you get them to eat the calcium?! I crushed the calcium and put it in a bowl of peas and water (their favourite). But have no way of telling how much they have had?! I guess it's trial and error. And hoping...
Excellent. Thank you so much. Feel so stupid and that I should have known this. My other girl seems fine. Will get onto the calcium and turmeric for safe measure and hopefully she will be ok. So scary to see! X
She is walking fine now and I found two soft eggs in her run!!!! So I think you are right the eggs were stuck. How can I prevent this happening again? Does the poor love need calcium? And should I give it to them for as long as they are laying? Or are the soft eggs just because they've only...
My duck Rebeccah went to bed fine last night. This morning when I opened it up, the other two came out as normal but she just sat there inside. At first I thought she may be laying as I tend to get both eggs in the morning (I have 2 ducks, 1 drake). She then fell down the ramp and couldn't seem...
I'm my goodness what an adventure! Naughty little Zachary at it again - what a character already
I am nervous about this happening as they like to run and flap especially when the wind blows! Are you considering clipping their wings?
Yes! I'm pretty sure I have 2 girls and a boy! So...
Haha my son has just turned two. He loves his "baby ducks" and although mostly very good with them he likes to follow them around. Rebeccah (our duck) gets a bit protective and gives him a little nibble to warn him she's not happy - which makes my son roar with laughter and does it all the more...
Does anyone know if Welsh harlequins fly and whether I will need to clip their wings? I've read they don't but mine like a good old run up the garden whilst they flap! Worried they will take off!
