Ah! Thanks for the reminder, I always tend to forget which way they are sexable, but from the previous hatch the ones that had the white spots on their head are all looking roosterish, so it tracks. :) I don't think they were in with the BCM roo long enough, were in with a French blue cuckoo...
Thank you, and I hope the rest of your hatching goes better too!
My last ones all hatched today. I did get some BCMs, and I am happy about that because those eggs in my last batch gave up a few days before hatch. Also got an olive egger, from my BCM roo and one of my Crested Cream Legbars. I...
Due to a snafu with the temperature gauge, mine haven't hatched yet, it's day 23. I lost some in egg today that were alive this morning, and I really wanted these particular ones. :.(
I have pips, and heard peeping in the ones still alive, so should be tonight sometime.
I'm joining!
I'm going to set, if they make enough: White Frizzle Cochin, Golden Seabright, and Porcelain d'Uccle eggs, all crossed with my porcelain d'Uccle roo. I'm DYING to see Seabright d'Uccle crosses.
Also Crested Cream Legbar, Black Copper Marans, crossed with my BCM roo, and maybe a...
I don't remember a smell ever, but I am in Arizona where it is rather dry, so maybe that is why? I also try to dry hatch. I have gotten the blood ring, but I thought that was because the veins were dispersing? Interesting.
My Virkon-S was shipped out Monday from Nebraska, got to a town near...
Yeah, the studies tend to be super dense and it takes me a bit to interpret what the different things mean. "Can I have that in regular speak please?" :D
But I'm just so interested in that sanitizing has such an improvement with hatching, when all these years I was thinking that doing anything...
I'm trying to get some Virkon-S and it seems to be out of stock in the reasonable size and price many places. Really frustrating. I should have bought some last year. Blargh.

I've been reading, out of interest, this study done with Oregano essential oil being used as one of the...
Thank you for the additional info on your technique! You saw that article, too? :) I got moderately confused because Virkon-S was saying 10 min to kill Marek's in the chart I'd found for it's use. Then I was reading for Odoban it is 60 seconds to kill viruses, on a clean, non-porous surface...
Can you kindly detail your process for sanitizing eggs?
I got Odoban to sanitize my incubator, but I am not sure how to approach sanitizing the eggs. I read one article on here about dipping the egg into Odoban (properly diluted, and warm water) for 60 seconds, but if there is dirt or poop...
I was interested in using Virkon S for sanitization but the chart for the product said to kill Marek's Disease you have to use it for 10 minutes? Of course, now that I am in a hurry trying to find said information, I can't.
I read another interesting paper on how they experimented using...
