Hi coachhaze, sorry for not getting back to you right away. Unfortunately, I'm looking for someone who keeps only bantams and she needs a bit of special care until she heals. Right now I'm in the process of keeping her completely separate until she heals and may end up keeping her until then...
Aww, heyeddah, I wish CT was a bit closer. I think she'd do well with your group - it stinks that I can't ship her, but I just don't think she needs any extra stress right now. It breaks my heart to look at her at the moment.
Americana, I'm not sure about your question, but I imagine...
Hi guys! My poor Silkie is seriously getting beaten up and as much as it pains me to do so, I think it's time I found her a new home. She'll be 2 years old this coming summer and is an excellent little layer (usually an egg a day when it's warm, give or take a few missed days in between.)...
All I can say is that until I had chickens, I had no idea of all the different noises they make! Purring, cooing, growling - you name it. The purr is definitely nice to hear though. My SLW purrs as she roosts on my legs. It's incredibly sweet.
I'm sorry for your loss, Chicknlittle I think we only made it by a hair and I can't say how happy I am for the Reach animal hospital that services people after hours.
Souther28chick - I'm in full agreement there. Since I discovered the joys of DE, I'm never going back. I've already given my...
I haven't been around much lately, but I endured a horrible experience yesterday. Since the cat is doing much better and my mind is at ease, I now have room to feel extremely ticked off.
My mother dosed the cat with Bio Spot, which she was told was just basically a generic version of...
Hi there
For temperature, you move down in increments of 5. To be perfectly honest, I only followed this as a guideline in the beginning and then just started watching my chicks. They'll let you know what's right for them. If they're 3 weeks, the temperature rule says they should be at...
I was kinda thinking along those lines, but didn't have a clue. I always heard that the molt would occur in late summer, so I thought I was just grasping at straws. I thought that might be it, losing some of the heavier winter feathers now that it's warming up. Nothin else seems to be up, so...
For the past two days I've only gotten 1 egg (it's still early today, so I'm hoping there will be more!) and even for about a week before then, it had slowed down quite a bit. It's been surprising to me because my girls laid very regularly through the winter, which I hadn't been expecting. Why...
I don't know how I'd go about it with the pop bottle. I'm kinda clueless as a matter of fact lol!
Missprissy - my waterer is raised up on blocks and they still kick stuff into it and knock it over. I have one bantie in my flock so it's not as high as it could be without her, but it's still a...

LOL Don't feel stupid! I prefer to just toss grit and oyster shell in the run and let them get it a bit more naturally, but during the winter they aren't out much so I have a mini-feeder with it now.
I don't know much about roos in general because this is my first flock, but my Golden Campine 'hen' turned out a bit cockier than expected and he's wonderful. It's a small breed so there's not too much wear on my hens (which are all heavy breeds for the most part) and not so horrible on my...

so do we. I may build like 4 feeders out of it then maybe cut them and build roosts for there run. I have like 22 feet of it from the person who used to live here
I'm definitely building another feeder to go into the run - the one in the coop has worked wonderfully and took no time at...
I haven't tried that, no. I suppose that rather than trying to fashion a wall mounting waterer, I could sort of make a closed in shelf that would support the waterer I have now. Have a solid shelf base and perhaps sides that start about half way up the waterer so most of the dish is...
My girls (and guy!) are seriously beginning to try my patience...and I'm starting to think the little buggers are doing it on purpose. I just built and put in a lovely PVC feeder that has definitely helped with wasting and spillage. Now, just since I've put that in and they can no longer wreak...
