If they are cleaning up the food at every feed, they are starving. Why aren't you free feeding, they will not over feed, they regulate themselves. I keep feed in front of them 24 7 and never have fat hens. They all start laying at 5 to 7 months depending on breed.
I agree with that. By the time my lab was 6 months, she still went after chickens, her predictor instinct is overly strong. I have worked with her for almost 3 years, and she still salivates when around the chickens, so I make sure she is not left alone. I know, it is a bit of work, but I...
Wondered ow long it would take for someone to mention LGD. That is the only 100% answer to predators'. I had a /great Per, who lived in the barn and orchard with the chickens, never lost one in the years I had her. Do not get a pet, get one who has lived with chickens, or sheep, goats, etc...
Another great idea, I had considered vinyl also, went with the 3 coats of paint. I forgot to mention that I scrape the poop board with an old hoe, into a bucket, chickens do most of their pooping at night and are out in the yard during the day. Works for me.
great idea, I painted my poop board with 3 coats water based and I can wash it down every so often. It is paint that is safe for babies and chickens. I have 20 chickens and no smell as I said before.
Been using poop board under roosts for years, scrap it clean every day or 2, no smell at all. dump the poop around fruit trees, in fenced orchard in summer and in veg garden in fall and winter, till it in in spring, works great for me and no hard work.
