    Mixed Age Chicks Cuteness Alert

I just did this today with my 4wk Olds and 1 day old chicks... and exactly the same thing happened. The older chicks love the babies and the babies cuddled right up under them.

    Older chicks brooding new babies?

My 3 older chicks are 4 weeks old. We just hatched 5 silkie babies in the last 24 hrs. I originally was going to split them up because of age difference but wanted to see if they could live together... and beyond my surprise not only did they accept the chicks, the older chicks started letting...

Something is wrong with my rooster?

We have done the same for my roo and he, too, is doing well! Still has the pale comb but he seems to be happy and walking etc normally! What a strange phenomenon.

    Roo Falling/Limping & Pale Comb

So sorry I haven't had a chance to respond. So we named him Charlie (kids picked it) and he spent 3 nights inside the house getting constant access to water and some feed/fruit before bed. His crop was emptying and he was pooping like normal. He perked up considerably after the couple nights...

Something is wrong with my rooster?

How did your roo end up? My 6mo old roo doing very similar. 🥺

    Roo Falling/Limping & Pale Comb

Help me figure out what's up with my roo boy! This is the second day in a row now that he has plopped out of the coop in the morning and takes encouragement to get up and move. His comb and wattles are turning pale and limp, and his feathers on his lower back area seem to be jumbled up...

    Is this fertilized?

Thank you all! Yes, the last photo was the best of the egg I was wondering about! The other 4 I don't believe to be fertilized. That one darker yolk with the ring around it was the one I was questioning. My roo and hens are all under a year (hatched November 2021) so I was curious if he was able...

    Is this fertilized?

We have a silkie roo and two laying hens, I've seen him mate with them a few tines and I have patiently waited to see if any if the eggs we gather have been fertilized successfully. This one in particular looked different than they usually do. Is that the bullseye? I've tried to figure it out on...

    First Hatch-a-long! November 2021!

They are 7 weeks old this week. I tried to introduce then to outdoor today while I swept and emptied their bin but they all told me hell no and ran back inside. So I stuck their bin outside once it was cleaned and freshened up and let them enjoy some sunlight and experience the breeze for 30 min...

    5wk old Silkie chick abcess

Unfortunately this morning we found Raven deceased. She had cuddles and was acting fine last night. This morning she was gone. My 8yr old Oakley is very heartbroken. 😭💔 She truly loved her pet chicken. And Raven loved her person. Snuggles and climbed up on her shoulder all the time.

    5wk old Silkie chick abcess

I was using a brooder heater that they can tuck underneath up until this week as my home is 68 degrees with central air so they don't ever get below that being indoors and they're all mostly feathered not downy anymore They are in natural light for the day/night with the exception of their...

    5wk old Silkie chick abcess

No treats at all as they're only 5 weeks old. They eat medicated chick crumble. That's it. I was going to get some nutri drench and grit last night but drove all the way to the feed store for them to be closed for new years day. 🤦‍♀️ We have over a foot of snow and ice (not usual for my area)...

Help! 3w chick crop not emptying

Hi I'm dealing with a 5wk old silkie doing the same. How did this turn out for you? What worked?

    5wk old Silkie chick abcess

I do appreciate that tip... I'm new to chickens so I'm always weighing advice and trial and error with caution. It's like medical advice and parenting advice, you take it all in and use what works but always keep the rest at the back of your mind. I've read about 50 articles since yesterday...
