turning 8 mo on the 29th and NOT LAYING

My 9-month old Ameraucanas still aren't laying and they're under lights 14 hours a day. I'm resigned to the fact that they may not lay until Spring.

    My first chicken coop :)

Very nicely done! As others have said, I wouldn't worry about keeping the temperature at 50 degrees inside the coop. You want your girls to be able to go outside without experiencing the shock of a massive drop in temperature. They will acclimate to the cold. Just add ventilation that will...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Quote: I think he's beautiful, too, and he has a wonderful personality; He's very respectful of people but not afraid, and he's good with his girls. I'm actually very happy with the lot of them and would love to buy more from you. :0)

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Quote: Thank you! I'm a newbie when it comes to Ameraucanas too. I think this lot is lovely, too, but I don't know how to properly assess them as Ameraucanas. I'm reading, watching, learning. :0) They look good. Tail might be a bit high on the roo, but he looks hearty and healthy. As long...

    What is he?

He came from a hatchery (I don't know which one) as part of an order of Ameraucanas. We know he's not an Ameraucana but I'm thinking he's a mutt of the EE variety.

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Quote: I am an ameraucana newbie, so I won't say to much. But I just had to say WOW !! The lacing on those blues is awesome!! Very pretty! I have one blue pullet and she isn't nearly as nice as those. Thank you! I'm a newbie when it comes to Ameraucanas too. I think this lot is...

    What is he?

I took this 11-week old cockerel with a group of pullets that I purchased recently. He was headed for the chopping block and I'm a softie, what can I say? Any guesses on his heritage?

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I would love to get some constructive and instructive feedback on my Ameraucanas. I have a black roo, black pullet, and two lavender split pullets, all shown below. (Please excuse the EE in the last photo, she's obviously not one of the birds I want feedback on.) I purchased them from a local...

For those who keep flocks of 50+ birds

Quote: My chickens are all clipped as well. We did it during daytime this past summer and it was a chore but we managed. I like the idea of headlamps. I'll have to run out to Home Depot and grab a couple; that will help with night time dusting! Thank you!

Quote: Where do you get your Ivermectin and is it specifically for poultry or marked for other use. How do you administer it?

For those who keep flocks of 50+ birds

Quote: Thank you for the break down and the precise explanation of how you dust the birds. It sounds manageable. I typically dust my smaller flocks during the day and it's a chore but we can get it done in about an hour and I can tell who's been dusted b/c I know each bird by sight/name...
