    The AMERAUCANA thread

I've bought hatching eggs from reputable breeders, all birds looked purebred, all hens hatched from these eggs were laying blue eggs, and their offspring is laying blue eggs as well. The Ameraucanas were housed with no other roosters, I've had a hedemora hen (lays brown eggs) and a silverudd...

    The AMERAUCANA thread

Hello everyone! Looking for advice. This guy hatched last year - we had a blue wheaten roo over blue wheaten and splash wheaten hens. Is he a splash wheaten or a blue wheaten?

    Weasels

Nice catch! Glad you caught it! May I ask what kind/size of trap that is? My mice traps and blackhole trap don't seem to work, the meat is gone every time, but rhe traps don't set off. And I'm sure I'm dealing with a weasel. Caught a baby in the coop the other day

    Verified weasel in run

Did you have luck catching the weasel? What did you use l? I've caught a baby weasel in the coop two days ago and set up a blackhole trap with a tiny bit of raw meat. Since then the meat is gone everyday but the trap doesn't set off. Looking for ideas. .

Young goose can't open its beak

We had to let him go... 😥towards the evening he was doing worse, falling over in the attempt to get up, obviously in pain. Couldn't see him suffer anymore...💔 But we did an autopsy, in hopes to get answers. Liver, heart and kidneys seemed to be normal. But the lungs were partly grayish and in...

Yes, I do have electrolytes. I set it up in the bowl. Will also try to carefully syringe some. As per vets recommendation, it's the only way to supplement this little fella

Young goose can't open its beak

Update: the vet suggested a neurological issue. Either a head trauma or most likely a vitamin deficiency. They did an x-ray and there are no fractures. The jaw is opening a tiny bit, but the gosling is not swallowing. It got a few needles: Vit AD, Metacam for pain relief and penicillin.

It is not doing any better, but also not worse, which is most important. I'm taking it to the vet today

Young goose can't open its beak

Thank you for your input. These are definitely good ideas Yes, our geese have access to the compost pile, unfortunately. Sometimes the chickens dig in the box and take the scraps out... never thought of botulism As for water, it is being replaced few times a day in the drinking bowls and every...

Young goose can't open its beak

Our geese are ranging free in the field, they get 2 cups of oats and 2 cups of poultry grower at night. They also get some lettuce and other veggies throughout the day. Haven't noticed any spoiled foods, but could have missed something...

Young goose can't open its beak

In case it was zinc poisoning (we have a metal roof on the run) can I administer calcium? I'll see a vet tomorrow anyways, just trying to help the sweetheart while waiting
