We got a very large egg last week and when my wife cracked it open there was a small reddish egg at one end about the size of a golf ball. She cracked it open and it was a small version of a regular egg (white and yoke). We kicked ourselves for not taking pictures.
I have a friend that claims his fake garden owl keeps the hawks away. I have not tried it, but he says it has worked for him for several years. He has the kind with a wobbly head on it.
Thomasj, I understand your dilemmas about the raccoons. I have raised some babies and had them for pets for my children in the past, but I have found that it almost comes down to either the raccoons, or the chickens. The raccoons are so destructive and very good at working their way into a cage...
