Does anyone know of an Arizona breeder that breeds for longevity vs show/productivitiy? My kids love their chickens and when they die after 2-4 years it is really heart-breaking.

I find the problem is that people breed for looks or productivity, not necessarily longevity.

Are yours very hardy? Do they get sick? I would love to get some chickens that live long and are rarely ill. My kids love their chickens, but to lose them after 2-4 years is heartbreaking.

Mine free range during the day in Arizona. I do have a DIW swamp cooler and for the coop, we have AC. 120 is too much for an evaporative cooler.

I am curious, how can it be okay for chickens to go through and turn compost, especially if their poop may have parasites?

Question: I am worried about my dogs messing around with the springs and such on the outside -- is that possible? Also, do the smaller sizes have the same size opening? My hens are not nice to eat other, so I am trying to figure out what to get.

Al, I am curious about your largest treadle chicken/dog feeder. How big of a dog is it made for? I have 120 lb dogs with big heads.

I usually make a shoe. I cut an inch off a jumbo pool noodle and vetwrap it with 1" wrap onto their foot. I have tried PRID, surgery, and soaks, but the pool noodle is the only thing that works. You do not need to soak or do surgery!

@casportpony Do you know if you can give Denagard straight from the container, without diluting it? I free-range and it is over 110 degrees here with my free-ranging flock. I have trouble limiting their water sources.
