Sour crop - 3 days running

One of my hens has a bad case of sour crop. Day 1 (Friday) I noticed she wasn't herself. Her crop wasn't massive but it was squishy. I massaged it several times and hoped for the best. Day 2 (yesterday) her crop was very full in the morning, so I isolated her in the nursing cage with no food...

    Ascites

Been to the vet. I've had this treatment before a few years ago and it was about £100. This time, £300!!!! Problem is I cannot get antibiotics in this country unless I go to a vet and there's only one avian specialist near me. He has diagnosed peritonitis and has prescribed antibiotics and...

Scaly Leg mites? Plus green poop!

It doesn't look like bumble to me. Looks more like an injury but if it's responding to treatment, then great. Do as the others suggests and get him into the sunlight.

    Ascites

Thank you. She's survived two more days. Although not eating very much, she's still active, preening, drinking and walking about. He abdomen was swollen again yesterday. I decided not to drain it so the vet can see it for himself. Can't get an appointment until they open at 8am, so fingers...

Scaly Leg mites? Plus green poop!

I also didn't know this but it would make a lot of sense. I've never had an indoor chicken!

Scaly Leg mites? Plus green poop!

It could be bumble. That will make him not happy to move about if it's bad enough. The poop didn't seem too bad, so glad it's improving and it's possible it could be because he's not eating properly due to feeling pain. It's be interested to see the photos because I've never seen bumble on...

Scaly Leg mites? Plus green poop!

I didn't spot that. Is it both of the 4th toe on each foot? The one I can see looks like a wound, like the nail has been ripped off. I think you are doing the right thing by treating it. Have you cleaned it? Certainly I'd clean it before applying the antibiotic cream. Happy to look at...

Scaly Leg mites? Plus green poop!

Hi His legs don't look too bad to me. Perhaps it's the photos, but they look fairly normal for a chicken that's been scratching around. If you're concerned about mites, you could get a spray. I've only had one instance of this in the last 20 years and I just covered the legs in vaseline...

Don’t know what this is help?!

Totally agree with bbburch - it's an injury. It'll be gone in a week or so.

    Clicking when breathing.

Update Breathing back to normal. No crop issues. Eating and moving around fine. Not laying but possibly that was hers when I last posted. She certainly seems happy enough. I'm going through a number of issues all at the same time. The hens are all the same age and come from the same terrible...

Hen has runny vent, unsure what it is

Hello I can't tell from the photograph whether there is a white discharge and a very mucky rear or not. If there is a lot of white discharge then it could be that she has vent gleat, which is a fungal infection of the vent. It is easily treatable with clotrimazole (the same stuff you use for...

    Sour crop Please Help!!!

Sorry to hear this. It's always a bit dramatic when it gets to the acute stage. I've been told and have found that sour crop, being fungal in nature, doesn't improve with antibiotics, in fact, they can have the opposite effect by removing some of the natural flora that exists in the crop. The...

    Ascites

I noticed one of my girls was being a bit slow. She has not laid for many months and went through a mould about 3 months ago. I felt her belly and it was clearly distended so decided to try to drain her. I withdrew about 30ml of fluid and then let it drain naturally, which it did for a good...

Egg trouble - possible lash or something else?

The only thing I can think of is cider vinegar in their water but I've stopped that over a week ago in case it was that affecting the calcium. No spinach, just mainly pellets, scratch (in an evening) and some sun flower seeds. She has grass every now and then but they only forage when I'm with...
