Meet Buttermilk. One of my baby blue australorps and a namesake to the girl in this thread. My granddaughter is having a hard time with Buttermilk's passing. Today, naming this one (her favorite of the new babies) after their hen made her "happy tears-ing" according to her younger brother.
Good catch!
I would also trim around the coop so that the hardware cloth is positioned between two pieces of board. If it is only stapled to one board it is a lot easier for a predator to rip through the material.
How did you attach the welded wire fencing? You could probably accomplish the...
They are. Thank you. I think I have a home for him - just checking their chicken "credentials".
I am already starting to feel back about having to give him away. He already thinks these girls are his. Hahaha.
I fee Kalmbach non-gmo 20% flockmaker b/c of rooster and babies that I have occasionally. They do have free access to flaked oyster shells (my girls were not eating the crushed version - had to get the expensive stuff). I do see the hens partake in that on a regular basis. Now that this one...
I have a flock of 14 hens, one rooster, one 7.5 week cockerel and six 24 day old pullets (🙏). All are black australorps, except the 6 24 day old pullets. They are blue australorps.
We have been finding soft shell, shell-less and rubber eggs for a few months, but I have never been able to...
The babies first trip out of their smaller enclosure when off without any hullabaloo. The big girls mostly just ignored them. There was one moment when one of the littles ran up to a hen and they hen gave her a "I don't know you like that" peck. Short, to the point. The baby ran back to the...
My daughter must have found her directly. It was still bloody, but it doesn't appear to have been pecked by the other chickens.
Here are photos after the bath and what it looked like after my daughter put everything back in and held it in place for about a 1/2 hour. She had to do that...
My daughter is dealing with one of her hen's. She does't know if she has even laid an egg yet, but found her with a prolaspe yesterday.
They were out of town so my other daughter tended to the chicken. She was able to get the material back inside the chicken. It came back out so she repeated...
These are my now 23 day old Blue Australorp chicks. Getting big and just before that awkward, gangley teenage stage.
And their 7.5 week old companion. We were hoping "April" would stick. Renamed to St. Augustine. Will need to rehome. :(:(
