I had to change my Omlet door to "time" instead of "light"....sometimes on an overcast day it would close and lock some out. Mine all sleep in the coop and they get quite distressed if they can't get back in. Might try that? I have mine closing about 30 minutes after sunset and I adjust it...
I drilled holes into the chain link panels every 16 inches....then I put a 2x4 on top of the panels and my trusses on top and ran a lag screw through the hole into the 2x4. Then put on the trusses and put my slats on and attached tin. Just remember to put an extra 2x4 on one side to give it a...
I want to expand my flock after losing a few to predators and stray dogs...I would like to get a few breeds that are auto sexing to give myself a better chance at getting all pullets. My rooster is awesome so I don't want another if possible. What are some of you folks favorite auto sexing...
I have the same run...I covered mine with tin. I drilled holes into the top rail and bolted a 2x4 on, then attached joists across to attach the tin to. Be sure and put an extra 2x4 on one side to create a slope for runoff. Works like a champ.
Here he is...I waited until all of his tail feathers grew back after the attack. He still has a slight limp but that's going to stay with him the rest of his life I suppose. He has truly become a great protector and up to this point has become the best rooster I have ever had. He has actually...
I just thought it was strange that she made a complete change in color...I did pour that extra protein to them during their molt with tuna fish and leftover chicken/beef and they always rob my barn cats of their food.
My group just went through a brutal molt...they were almost bald! LOL Anyway, after the molt I noticed that one of my BR's has become almost completely black with gray bars where she used to be gray with black bars(if that makes any sense) Do they change colors sometimes? Just thought it was...
So yesterday I had a stray dog show up with bad intentions....I live in the country so he had to come from a long ways. Anyway, I hear a commotion outside and go out to 1 dead hen and feathers everywhere. I did not take anything to defend the flock but my new to me rooster was fighting and...
As of this morning she is not acting weird anymore....I went and checked on her last night and she was up on the roost like the rest of them. I did not candle them since I truly do not want anymore chickens, but would have let her do her thing if she had hatched them. I was just trying to help...
Thanks!! He is an older rooster. It took several days after the initial quarantine look but don't touch period for him to get even close to them...they had been without a male companion for a while so they are quite independent! LOL They scared the crap out of him! He would run like crazy...
Okay chickens experts, I've had a hen that I suspected was broody for over 3 weeks now. I put some fertilized eggs under her that I got from a neighbor and she sat on them every day and night but now she is leaving the nest but still making these clucking sounds and walks around all puffed up...
