    He's gone!

I have his pen ready for him....

    He's gone!

For sure...he attacked me just before going to the roost tonight so I smiled a bunch as I stuffed him in the crate to leave.

    He's gone!

My aggressive rooster just left! He will live out his life with a flock of new hens that are basically feral so there won't be hardly any human interaction....I'm picking up a replacement tomorrow night from a good friend who has a fantastic flock of different breeds. I'll have my choice of...

    Roosterless flock

After the hawk attack I kept them on lockdown for 3 days....I have not had an issue since but my flock seem to be more aware now and stick close to cover at all times. He does the dancing and tidbitting but some of the girls will wander off and he does not seem to care....that's probably how...

    Roosterless flock

I used to like mine before he became an jerk....now he's not worth the trouble of fighting with him every time I go outside. If I had small children he would already be in the stew pot but I'm trying to find him a home. I may have found someone to take him but I made it quite clear....he is...

    Roosterless flock

I had him around for that very reason...he is supposed to be the sentry but he apparently is not very good at it. I will be searching for another rooster from some of my friends that I know with flocks so that I can get one from a trusted source and not a stranger that may have disease or...

    Roosterless flock

None of my neighbors have chickens so I don't think mine will go anywhere....the hens are very "needy" of me and come running anytime I'm around. That may be what the problem is with the rooster? They seem to like me better! LOL

    Roosterless flock

The only reason I started with him is to have some extra eyes while they free range but that didn't work out....and now he's jumping on me so he needs to go.

    Roosterless flock

I'm at the end of my rope with the rooster I have constantly trying to attack me so he's leaving....either in a crate or crock pot, that is still undecided. Anyway, do the hens do alright by themselves while free ranging? I live in the country and have predators around and have already lost...

    Lost my first one....

They have the best of everything fortunately....Their run is secure as my house! LOL They are just so used to the auto door opening every morning for the past several months that they are not very happy today or tomorrow....I'll probably not let them back out until Tuesday morning. Maybe he...

    Lost my first one....

Most folks know that I have been free ranging all day every day since my flock was old enough to do it on their own....I came home today and the feathered friends did not greet me like they normally do so I started looking for them. After a short search I noticed they were scattered and under...

    Rooster toughness

I'm really considering this....I have read on here and other places that they calm down some after a year old. He's a couple months from that so I was trying to hold out to see if he does in fact chill out. I really hate it because he is a true gentleman to the hens but a giant a$$ to me...

    Rooster toughness

As some know I have a very aggressive rooster that I have a weekly confrontation with....well today he decided he wanted some so I kicked him and knocked him out. He got up and wobbled over and got under some bushes. Now he has finally started back crowing again after about 30 minutes...

    Nest boxes under poop shelf?

I have my boxes under my poop boards....I used milk crates up on blocks. I have 3 under there but they only use the one that is in the darkest corner which makes sense. Occasionally some of them just have to "go" so they use the other ones but not very often.

Live minnows or crickets for my chickens?

I've been giving mine live crickets since they were able to go out on excursions in the backyard. Now I'm like the pied piper when I get the cricket box outta my shed....they follow me anywhere. It's hard to find live ones this time of year but it won't be long before fishing season starts...
