Welcome. If I may, I would suggest getting Leghorns. They are very productive with laying, are flighty so they fare well being free ranged. They come in several varieties, and two different comb styles. My Grandad has always had them, and I have yet to see a breed match their egg production...
Split wing is genetic and is passed on when bred and wont get better over time. And, most split wings I have seen, the feathers never looked like this. This resembles angel wing, to me anyway.

Some advice I could give is to not get a variety that takes a lot of time and effort to get correct, especially if your starting out. Unless of course you want to have a mixed flock, then it doesnt matter. But, if you plan to have quality birds, or to show, then I would suggest, as Craig said...
Lucky you! My Whites havent even started to lay yet. I got 3 eggs and they stopped. My Reds are laying like crazy now though, found a hidden nest with 5 eggs, and Ive been getting 1-2 a day now for the last week. I was really hoping to have chicks by now, but I guess it will be a little later...
No, this would be considered Splash. Self-Blue, what they will be called, are still in the early stages of development as Jennifer stated. They are not an accepted variety for Cochins yet and are very few in numbers for good quality stock. Self-Blue can only be bred to itself or Black to produce...

I agree, and in this age of the computer the information is out there. Take a little time and effort to search for things yourself, dont just expect everything you need to know to be told to you in one conversation, by one breeder. Show some effort and passion in what your interested in, let it...

I agree with Craig. I dont remove the spurs, I just cut them down and round them off. If they bleed, they have a powder you can get to stop it, or you can use sugar. I use sugar since its cheaper and readily available. I dont think there are any points for spurs, but a nice rounded spur just...
