I've never had a problem with egg bound hens but this blog/website has a great post on it.

I have 3 hens. One Black Sex Link, an Easter Egger, and a RIR. I knew that Rhoda, the RIR, was the one who stopped laying. It wasn't until I noticed a worm in one of the poops that I figured it wasn't just the lack of sunlight (which I was supplementing anyway). It had been probably a month of...
Hi All,
Here is my beautiful 10 week old SLW. He is very friendly and is just starting to crow. We are not zoned for roosters and I need him to hit the road asap before the neighbors get tired of the wake up call.
Thanks from Maryland
I love gardening and have been doing that for years. This year I've added chickens and ducks and beekeeping is in my next 5 year plan (but I really want it to be in my 1 year plan). I think the top bar method looks the best so far and the article that made me think that is on the Mother Earth...
Wow! Goats eat Poison Ivy?! I wish I could just borrow someones goat to clear it out of my backyard since my husband is highly allergic. I don't want to spray it with anything because the chickens like to free range in that area.
Love pits! My uncle used to breed them but as soon as I was out on my own he stopped. I've never owned one but think they are sweet dogs if treated as such!
Mint sounds almost as bad as wild strawberries. They has taken over my yard. I will never plant mint in the ground, only in a pot on the porch, as I heard that the mint seeds can "jump" out of the pot.
This year I have 3 6x6 raised beds with 14 Roma tomatoes in 1 box, 1 heirloom Beefsteak, 1 heirloom Bradley, 2 Mortgage Lifters, 2 Black Sea Man's, 2 Yellow Pears, 2 Indigo Roses, and 1 Super Sweet 100 in box #2. In the third box I have 7 cucumber bush plants, 2 zucchinis, 3 jack be little's, 3...
Today I put holes in the bottom all of the gallon milk jugs and 2 liter bottles I had been saving. I found the idea on pinterest.com to use them as a slow drip watering system in my tomato garden. Since tomatoes don't like to get their leaves wet, I can now just fill up the jugs and let the...
In the book Free-Range Chicken Gardens: How to Create a Beautiful, Chicken-Friendly Yard by Jessi Bloom, Kate Baldwin. She lists many plants that are perfect for the free range chicken yard. Love this book! Has helped me greatly with my blank slate.
Funny. After doing all this research to see if they were roos, I found out that our Araucana was probably not an Araucana! Feed Stores were selling them as such but they were just easter eggers. Oh well. But like I said in my other post... If you think he's pretty enough, and you're near...
