The "passable bots" (openclaw, etc) tend to be too expensive (at least right now) to run well enough to sound repeatedly credible as humans.     I had something similar happen one time, and then when I reran the same exact prompt, it worked. The problem is I can't reproduce it reliably to troubleshoot it. :(
