Best I could do on short notice with materials on hand. I put this over the dryer vent put their feed bucket near the opening, heavy skillet and jug of water for a makeshift waterer. Do you think they will move over from behind the trash cans? I made sure they know it exists.
Found my hens have been laying in the yard under a mimosa tree. I will get rid of those as I don’t know how old they are and they are not fertile (no rooster) thinking of confining to the small run (usually have run of large fenced yard) for a week or so.
Will this re-train them to use the nest...
Update: it seems that she is back on the roost.
I set up some blocks in the nest box and I guess she’d rather get on the bar than sleep on the floor at this point.
I will be redoing the roosting bar though as I know they will prefer a round rod to the 2x2 they have now. Thanks for the help.
I wouldn’t mind sleeping in the nest box, but as you know, the first thing they do is poop. Then I get dirty eggs. So that’s the issue I have with that.
I have pine shavings but the guy who built this thing used slats leaving openings that the saw dust just goes through. I will be scraping the floor down and putting down cardboard and shavings soon.
It seems hunger has forced her out and nobody is chasing her off, but still concerns me.
Two will roost on each end leaving about 18” in the middle, so I don’t think they are crowded
