Moving chicks from brooder to coop

Do you know if the coop leaks? Does it flood? That's the only thing I would worry about. Last year I had a huge rain(atmospheric river) my run flooded up to my shins. In fact the whole yard did. I was very lucky the coop itself stayed dry. With them being so small that's what I'd worry about.

Owning chickens in a township where they are illegal?

They don't want complaints coming in that's why it's good to ask neighbors if they are ok with it. I did this at first then one neighbor moved a.new family moved in. I didn't ask them but they run a day care out of there house so I guess I put up with the kids they put up with the chickens. I...

Taking chicks outside for the first time - enclosure needed?

Hi and welcome! I'd put them in a enclosure. Covered top if you have hawks. My run is covered because we have hawks raccoons possum and that's just what I've personally seen in my yard this year. Those guys are still little so I'd make a small enclosure or chicken tractor they can play in. Hope...

    Broody hen killed first chick!!

I personally would pull the eggs too hatch in a safer space. I'd brood them inside and grow them out so the hen won't kill them. I tried to introduce my chick's a couple weeks earlier and my hen took one down. She is ok but i packed up and let them grow out for a couple more weeks. She...

Any of these guys big enough to join the flock?

I'd say yes. Of course keep a eye on them. When I brought my babies to my one hen I had left (9yrs old) she quickly established domince. She eats first or they get a peck in the back. It wasn't long before they were snuggled with her at night and she purred to them. She still eats first but...

We lost one of our girls tonight..

Yes I've had them go like that. The reason is chickens are bread knowing NOT to show weakness, illness, pain, ect .because if their flock notices they will attack and kill them. It's the way of nature. So sadly by the time we notice they are either dead or close to it. Some signs the do show is...

    Chicks foot is dying/vet? (Pictures)

Bless you for taking such good care of her. Chickens can adapt amazingly well. Since she's so small she will learn how to get around without it. Just have patience. I have one now I'm working with who couldn't walk at all. She was doing splits. She was already 5 weeks when this happened then to...

    New chicken mama questions

Hi. I only give water in the coop at night if my day has been 90 degrees or over and know the coop will be warm into the evenings. I live in one of the hottest areas 110_115 a normal summer. The coop and run is in the shade of three trees and the run is fitted with a misting system. Chickens...

    She is walking again!!♡♡

Thank you so much for the tip! I took her off the poultry cell because after awhile she got bad diarrhea. She it still on the B2 drops. I will definitely keep her on for longer. I don't think she could go through that again so I will be sure she's ready before she comes off. I'd hate to go...

    She is walking again!!♡♡

I thank God! It broke my heart her life hadn't even begun and she couldn't walk. I have a big Ole heart and I took her outside in my hands because I thought she was passing after being trampled and she never got to see the sun or grass so I just held her and petted her and let her see outside...

Hi guys as you know I've been treating my chick for awhile now for vitamins defiency. She has had such a hard start. She was doing vertical splits and being trampled by the flock.
