As for eggs: she hasn't laid any, I don't feel anything in there. She is molting on her belly and butt so I'm hoping the fact she is molting means she's not currently producing any eggs.
She will not eat food unless I shove it down her throat. They were all wormed in the spring.
I noticed tonight that other hens have some swelling in their feet as well, and I saw a couple of bumble spots. I took down the roost which was high up and now I feel that was the cause. Even though...
FYI.... I looked up US FARAD and it's the United States Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank.
I guess they monitor what medicines, etc. food producing animals can have.

She will not eat but otherwise is awake, attentive and aware. I've been feeding her by syringe since last Sunday when she stopped eating on her own. She was not standing or walking at that time.
I tried soaking her foot at first but then on Wednesday (3 days after that) we did the first...
Hubby and I just dug out two bumbles. One on each foot on the bottom. Three days ago we had cut one on top in between the toes. That's healing well according to the vet who saw it today.
She hasn't been able to walk for a number of days and I've been feeding her by syringe and spoon or putting...
Thank you for replying. I used that thread you posted the link to for my previous bumblefoot surgery. Soon I leave for the vet to get to the other two new spots.
I have spent the night trying to figure out a way to Lysol my run. It would probably take 100 cans of Lysol LOL.
I've considered...
Bumblefoot. One of my hens has it. I have 11 hens in a pretty big co...op/run. Their area is 8 foot wide by about 75 feet long. Within that is a brand new Amish custom shed 10x6 with gigantic windows. Their area is a combo of dirt, a little bit of gravel (under the shed and on one side for a...
I have four chicks sitting under a hen which had gone broody and who is now a very happy mamma. Two of the chicks are about five weeks, two are three weeks. Right now, at dusk here in NYC, they are under her.
I too wonder if they will be okay. I hear it's going down to the high 50's tomorrow nite.
I had one of my production red/RIR go broody on me two months ago.
All she did was sit on the nest wherever everyone else had laid eggs. I kept taking the eggs away (no roosters here) but she stayed there.
After five weeks she was still sitting so I ordered four fertilized eggs and set them...
4/6. Numbers 5 and 6 are old RIR's whose egg laying days are probably long gone. They are in full retirement, are nice and beefy and round and probably the luckiest old hens are earth being they live with two humans who aren't capable of ending their retirement LOL
When I told chicken farmers of my procedure they laughed themselves to death.
My set up is a rubbermaind type shed 7 x 3 with shelves inside. I line every box, every roosting shelf with hay. Every day I put on a rubber glove and go poop picking taking hay/poop clumps and put them either in...
I have a smallish fenced in yard in which I have grass and lots of pretty lillies. I surround my flower beds with a readily available metal fencing which is decorative 2 foot high border type fencing. When it's warm I let the hens out to graze after work and I hang out in the yard in order to...
It's been really cold here so every night somewhere between 9-12 pm I go outside with some freshly made hot oatmeal. They hear me coming and start to sing happy songs and come jumping down from their roosts as soon as the lights come on. They eat a whole bunch of hot oatmeal, drink water and go...
