I've seen them go for flying ants. We have a species here that swarms out winged ones from time to time and the chickens love them. Oddly these weren't winged....unless she found them in the nest (entrance was torn open a bit) and nabbed those before I saw them.....
Winston strikes me as a good name for a stocky guy. You'll name him when the time is right....and it may or may not be anything under consideration. Meanwhile enjoy him. He's already a looker, and going to get even better. (So is Juice, in an entirely different way.... oooh, don't share this...
He is quite the chunk! If you keep him, I suggest a name on par with Drumstick.... Hambone or Muttonchop (although I see that more on a bearded bird).
I wonder if Juice is going to have BLUE crest/hackle feathers to go with the orange....good thing you don't live in Colorado. The football...
With those 2, take your time. Predator situation (whatever it truly is) can be worked on while you're evaluating the little guys. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs
No pics this morning, but shoulder feathers are starting. Crest watch is also happening, but so far, nothing. I'm still hopeful that at least 1 of the little black ones is a Thing grandchick. One of the blacks is feathering out seal brown. Final colors will be interesting. Comb/wattle/red...
I somehow ended up with 3 broodies sharing 20 chicks. Cardhu and PITA sleep together with chicks. But PITA and Focus range together with chcks drifting between them.
That's cause we had a rainbow in the incubator. 20 chicks hatched and all 3 broodies adopted them all. The chicks seem to be playing musical mamas....and are a week old.
