Thank you, I'll give it a try. If I can't clear this up am I going to have to put her out of her misery? She's acting better today but I can't imagine her passing an egg through that!
Thanks, here's another photo that I took today during her bath. I tried to scrub off more, but man, she looks so raw! I soaked her in soapy water and have put molasses in her drinking water. I also slapped some monistat on her vent, figured it couldn't hurt. Then gave her a mash with chicken...
Just need some confirmation. I've never had it before in my flock. I notice another bird has a runnel of wet poop drying on her bum feathers. I've looked at Sally Sunshines page and a couple of others, so I know how to treat... just want to be sure this is indeed Vent Gleet. I soaked her and...
Thanks guys, you've given me some good food for thought. I think my friend will be able to hatch them out for me. I'll keep some known fertile eggs in my turner in case the hatch goes poorly, and then yes, top up with the less fertile eggs when I get back.
Thanks so much!
I've put new chicks under an Ameraucana hen that was 11 days broody. She accepted them just fine. It's certainly possible! Good luck!
Have they hatched yet? Let us know if your broody accepted them! :)
Hi all,
I have to get rid of my rooster, and I have yet to hatch any eggs from my birds. The eggs in question will hatch out Olive eggers. I'm going to have to get rid of him shortly before we leave on vacation, and I'm going to want to hatch some eggs when I get back. I know the fertility...
Gave her some oil and water and massaged her crop for a bit, but now I'm not sure it's the crop. It felt like it could've just been breastbone. Warmed her up for a bit then put her back with the others in the sunshine.
Heard her peeping this morning so got up and checked her. Feels like she's got a hard lump in her crop. Hard, but small. They had gotten some grit the first couple days they were on grass, but not the last two. I threw some in this morning. I wonder if oil would work? She's still fairly alert...
This little guy is making soft chirping noises that are different than the others. Will just stand like this and occasionally stretch out his neck and shake his head. They are on grass under a couple of ecoglows at night. Temps getting down to the 50's at night but everyone is always happy when...
Wow, he's almost 5 hours away. I just drove to Paul yesterday morning and that was a 5 hour round trip. Not sure I want to do that much driving. Maybe someone closer will chime in.
Thought I'd add a pick of the 9 of them all dried off. 7 with my friend and two I grafted onto my broody (only broody 10 days, so I was lucky!)
She had three boys from my barred rock with white spots on their head and one was spoken for so she brought the other two over. I'll raise them and...
