Any sort of construction sand works, we use a combo of construction and sometimes play sand mix depending on what we are offered around us. We've never had any issues with either, we find the construction sand to be cheaper and can buy it in bulk, get whatever you have in your area, your...
This one has me waffeling somewhat, I would just watch it closely for the next couple of weeks, if those red/rust patches become more prominent then you'll have a Cockerel for sure, but hopefully the pattern will tighten up where it's evident it's a Pullet.
I have never had a Pullet with so...
1,2 and 4 are Pullets, I'm saying 3 is a Cockerel, pattern is uneven, could you post a few more full body pics of #3, I would be concerned for this one only, all others are 100% pullets.
I bet everyone is right on these but I really though the BO was a pullet, I see rounded feathers and such, tail feathers are suspicious but I've only had 2 of this breed so I'm going out on a limb here.......
The white one is a little blurry but I think the Black/White is male, the others I'm not confident enough, hopefully someone else will be able to provide a better opinion on breeds as well.
Exactly what I was thinking, I believe you have a SLW and not EE, in my experience with these birds, ours did mature quicker, both Pullets in fact had nice big combs around 7 weeks or so, give it a few more weeks and you'll know better.
I'm doubtful they are EE's as well, I have a solid white EE, just my opinion though, they do seem to be of another breed, and the 1 in question does look like a Cockerel in the making, I'll attach a pic of our White EE for comparison if that helps at all?
