Hi! This grey girl (I hope, I very much hope) is Franny, an eight week-old bantam "sage gem" - an olive egger variety from Meyer. She is extremely docile and has no visible comb or waddles that I can yet see, but her gorgeous tail makes me (first-timer!) nervous that she could be a secret he. Am...
Thank you so much, @NanaK ! This makes me feel way better. I saw a thread earlier today that no tail feathers by one week = roo, and got nervous. She's a doll, and I'd hate to have to rehome.
Hi! I've looked around on past threads, but haven't seen one like this. One of my chicks (first timer!) is a 10-day old CCL pullet from Meyer. She doesn't yet have tail feathers, and her wings are much stubbier than her non-CCL age-mates, but she has VERY clear chipmunk markings and dark...
Just here to say I'm sorry for your loss, and it sounds like you're doing everything right, as others have said.
I also got a trio from Meyer's this week. They took two days to get to Pittsburgh, but when I picked them up yesterday they all seemed okay. One of them was a bit more sleepy, but...
That's such a great point @maryn7! I reached out to a local(ish) hatchery and let them know I had a portable hand heater that could be used to keep the box warm, in addition to blasting the car heater.
Thank you for all the great suggestions! I will give these ideas a try, and appreciate knowing that even just two will be okay. I felt like I read every BYC post in the month leading up to their arrival, but this situation was one I hadn't thought of.
Hello! First-timer here. My 3 day-olds (technically 2-day-olds, I suppose!) arrived from Meyer yesterday, but sadly one was very lethargic on arrival and didn't make it overnight.
The other two seem to be thriving, but I would love for them to have a third buddy. Because of borough...
From one overthinker to another, a hearty thank you! My three girls (including a cream legbar!) will arrive next week and these are all the kinds of things I’m thinking and researching. You sound like you’re doing an amazing job.
You're officially a chicken influencer, because I could not resist buying one for my girls arriving in a few weeks! But! This leads me to a question I haven't been able to find on here: How easily does chicken poo come out of clothes? Will it mostly wash out? I'm not worried about stains, just...
That is so cool! How many are you expecting? What breeds? My first ever chicks will be arriving from the June 6 Meyer Hatch - 3 bantam girls. I absolutely can't wait, and am so happy to have BYC to help distract me from my own impatience — and learn about what to expect.
