Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

Happily I think this will be the last update - she’s finally 100% healed! At least the scab is completely gone and she’s starting to grow new feathers :-) I think I’ll keep it covered for another week or two. I did buy this cute little denim saddle that I’m going to put on her after it stops...

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

I looked into the chicken saddle and bought a couple - her wound is healing nicely and is no longer black so I thought I’d try it today - the white chicken (nurse ratchet 😂 - she picks on all the chickens) followed her around and tries to pick at her but the guard worked and she stopped trying...

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

I’m so happy to report that she’s laying an egg a day, and continuing to heal! I’ve been continuing to use the Banixx spray twice a day, and I’ve stopped using honey probably a week ago (I was using that early on before it scabbed over, then periodically if it got red.) I’m curious if she’ll...

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

Quick update - she’s healing up! Her skin is growing back and I can see feathers starting to grow back too. She definitely loves her social time outside with the flock. Still going to keep her in the makeshift dog crate chicken hospital until she’s 100%

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

I went to Murdoch’s and got some spray antibacterial solution. They also had a good suggestion and said to put the dog crate near the coop so the chickens can see each other - and omg she perked up immediately when I did that! It will have to be weather permitting but it will be warm enough this...

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

Thanks for the article! She’s eating and drinking. I may need to get a bigger dog crate to isolate her - the one she’s in she can move around but it’s not much space. I used it when my puppy was very young and only 10 lbs.

Puppy injured a hen and plucked out feathers on her back

My six month old puppy got one of the hens who escaped the coop. He plucked out lot of the feathers on her back. Along with some flesh. It’s been a week, and she was isolated in a dog crate inside because it was snowing out. During that time, she actually laid an egg. Because her back was...

    Chicken beak problem

T The first pic 5 days ago. The second pic is from today. I have two new chickens that were introduced to the three I had left (after a fox got my other chickens) and the new ones were picking on this one.. they all seem fine now and originally I thought it was a pecking wound but it looks bad...
