Thank you (and sorry for the late reply) I actually saved all of their first eggs (shells), and I buried her with hers. It's been hard watching the small flock continue without one, it feels like I'm always missing one still
On Saturday April 27th, my dear hen Shirley passed away over night in my room. I tried everything I could to help her, and made a few posts here in search of answers. I learned a lot of things and glad people were willing to help or suggest ideas. She had her ups and downs, I took her to the vet...
Hi, it's me again. This is a follow-up from my last thread about my hen acting off. (Link here.) Do let me know if there's a better way to update people! I don't think I can edit the post anymore
Good news and bad news, good is that I tried Miconazole and it really helped. Cleared her up for...
I'm so sorry your hen passed away. Just know you did everything you could. She was clearly well loved, and she knew that.
I've learned a few things reading through this thread. I recently gave one of my hens one calcium pill a day for about 5 days, because I noticed she was laying soft eggs. I...
I'm very relieved to hear your hen is doing better! I had a hen pass from being egg bound a few months ago – and ever since I've been worried about the same thing happening to my other hens. A good nights rest should do her well after this stressful day. You're doing great!
Update: I kept her inside last night, and her crop was completely empty this morning. She's energetic again now, but I'm sure after a few hours of being outside she'll be back to being mopey. She did spit up a little liquid yesterday though, but I can't confirm the colour cause it was on a black...
I do wonder if there's a recurring yeast in there that acts up perhaps. I'm going to look into getting probiotics from a not-vet source since they take a while to get back to me here. There's basically one farm vet to serve everyone where I live so they can be quite busy
As far as I know our local chicken store doesn't have probiotics, but I could be mistaken. I'll ask on a local FB group to check since they would be closed on the weekend. I have her inside again with me tonight, and I've noticed after she eats she makes a lot of gurgling sounds for a while...
Hello everyone, I have a weird case with my hen Shirley, she has been acting very strange and causing me worry. I suspect sour crop but honestly I'm not sure. I also question if she's just cold. I tried to be as precise as I could, and thank anyone in advance for reading.
1) What type of bird...
Hello! A good many months ago I came across a video of a girl showing how to make a temporary chicken diaper out of an old T-shirt. I can't find it anywhere now, and figured I would check here in case people had similar examples or perhaps other temporary diapers I could make. Most DIY videos I...
Update — It was an abnormal case of being egg bound
I got the necropsy results, and that is what was up with my little Faye. Thankfully no Marek's or Lymphoid Leucosis or similar. Initially when I noticed her acting strange (hunched over, tail drooping, not moving as much) I immediately assumed...
I haven't been noticing my roo make this head motion in quite some time, I'm not sure when it stopped. But I didn't administer any Vitamin E supplements after, I looked for treats that are known for Vitamin E instead. I started giving sunflower seeds as a treat in moderation, I do know to be...
