    Chick healthy but not growing?

I just think sometimes there’s a runt that’s slow to grow. Kind of like a preemie who ends up being just as big as their sibling. I’ve had lots of chickens over the last 13 yrs and this was the first time I’ve had a pip-squeak! As long as your chick is acting healthy, I wouldn’t worry about it...

    Chick healthy but not growing?

My chick has completely turned out just fine. Not sure if it was her breed (cream legbar) or just a fluke, but she always ate well and seemed healthy so all is well. If your “little” is eating and acting active and behaving normally, I would say not to worry. My guess is she’ll be just fine!

    Mid-June Molt?

I had the same thing happen last year. First time in 15 years I’ve had a summer molt. Dont worry about it. The only downside, aside from no eggs, is how slowly they re-feather. No cause for concern.

Pans of water and spraying the ground where they like to dig is helpful here in south Texas, as well as many of the other tips you read here. I also have screen doors (hardware cloth reinforced of course) that stay open all the time during the summer and windows around the entire perimeter of...

Haha, so much for auto-sexing! Our of six “auto-sexed birds, I got a rooster, too!

    Chick healthy but not growing?

UPDATE: just updating the original post because it always drives me nuts when I read a post and don’t find out how things turned out! So, my pipsqueak chick is now 14+ weeks old and has completely caught up in growth with the rest of the flock. She’s a cream legbar so has a funny “hat”. Hubby...

Trespassing neighbor with dog chasing chickens

They’ve ALREADY wrecked the neighborhood! These neighbors are showing blatant disrespect for you.

    Chick healthy but not growing?

Sounds exactly like my situation. I’d keep watching her and if she’s active and eating and drinking and pooping well, she’ll probably be just fine. Interesting in all the chickens I’ve had over the last 13 years, I’ve never encountered this before. I’m betting your little will be fine to! Keep...

    Chick healthy but not growing?

She’s slowly catching up, but still small compared to the other 3 with her same hatch date. She’s very healthy so I’m not worried about her any more. Your little one really is small, but looks very healthy. Did you hatch these or were they purchased? I ask because I suspect when I bought mine, I...

When mine start mingling with the adults, I switch to a feed like All Flock and supply several pans of calcium for the adults to use at will. I’ve never had a decrease in egg quality when doing this and everyone is on the same food. If you have a method similar to the set up described on the...

I’ve been using this method since I read the original posting on the Mama Heating Pad and will never go back to the brooder/heat lamp method! For those who haven’t tried it, just be aware that there are many different ways to implement this method even if you don’t have the wonderful set up seen...

Chicken Names- whats your chickens name?

Those names are hilarious! I have 3 cocoa marans we can’t tell apart, we named each one Coco. You guessed it, they’re collectively called The Cocos! All the rest of the flock got individual names, but I like your idea better. Gonna steal that for my next flock!

When we have watermelon in the summer, I take the rinds and freeze them. Then I give the chickens a nice cold treat to help them cool down in the heat of the day.

I’d only give it to them during molt. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t give it to them except when they can use the extra protein, like during molt. There’s a not at the end of the article about feeding cat food.
