I have 2 pullets who are 12 weeks old. I have two barred rock hens who are over 2 years old. We had three but one died so we bought two more. 4 weeks ago I created a fenced in area for our run with a temporary coop made out of an old tote. I removed the barrier this weekend. One of the...
This chicken is about 11 weeks old. It was sold as a red star at fleet farm who gets their chicks from hoovers. Their red stars are more red and black then red and white based on their website. https://hoovershatchery.com/Red-Star
this chicken looks similar to their website. It doesn't have...
Thank you. Hoovers red star link is below. My chicken looks similar but has an odd white feather otherwise black accents in tail and neck. https://hoovershatchery.com/Red-Star
We bought this chick on June 20 from farm and fleet which gets their chicks from hoovers. It was sold as a red star. I know red stars can vary and on hoovers website they look different than other Hatchery red stars. They are more red and black then red and white. Hoovers says theirs is a...
Hello, I have two new chicks we just moved out of the brooder. I have 2 adult barred rocks. We had 3 but one died in June having us buy two more. They are close to 8 weeks old and I made them a separate spot in run using fencing and made a temporary coop out of an old tote. I have a few...
From what I've heard hoovers only sells them to stores and not through website. She's a pretty well natured bird and having chickens a few years am really interested in the cross. Mine looks like the sign at fleet farm with the whiter neck and head. I'm imagining a barred rooster over...
Hello, this is my 7 to 8 week old rustic rock bought from fleet farm which gets chicks from hoovers. It looks like a barred rock with much more white in front neck and head. We got it as I let each kid pick out one when one of ours died early summer. I'm pretty certain it's a pullet based on...
Hello. One on my first hens passed away 3 weeks ago unexpectedly. I had 3 barred rocks now 2. They are a little over 2 years old and both good layers. 2 weeks and 2 days ago we bought 2 new chicks and had my young kids pick them out. One is a red star(my one son wanted the most orange one)...
For the first time 2 out of last three days 3! Out of three barred rocks. All three I have are now laying. Got them in June and one stopped for winter and one wasn't laying yet and now all three are. Very exciting and while two weeks ago I'd fill up a small bowl a week I now fill it up in a...
I got three barred rocks the first week in June. In December 2 of the 3 were laying. In January 1 of three, my best layer kept laying through winter. Finally this week my last layer finally laid, and got two the last two days. Hopefully the one who took winter break will start again soon.
We finally had a really cold day today, and I got home from work to my typical 2 eggs. Happy they're laying in these short days, but the eggs were very cold, and potentially froze. If they freeze, is there any issues with using them? Storing them? Want to make sure as this could be a problem...
All three are barred rocks. My first chickens and wanted them to be similar and wanted everything to be as consistent as possible. When I expand I plan on trying some new breeds potentially.
For the first time 2!. Got three pullets at start of June. One started laying 6/7 days a week in October. The other two kind of stalled, and I was thinking it was seasonal. However, in last week, the smallest one, the one I thought would lay last, grew out her comb and waddles practically...
