So for the last year I only had my silver lace cochins, so I knew what all the babies would be. A few weeks back I was given 10 pullets and one happened to be a splash (thinking a splash maran or australorp .. it has these solid grey silver legs)
..
Can someone point me in a direction so I can...
We found ourselves owning a pair of pekin ducks.. I wasn't planning ducks till we moved but here we are and my husband loves them. 😆
The other day my rooster was attacking the one. I have standard cochin chickens so he's a big boy even to be attacking a pekin.
Now im trying to figure out a...
Anyone have suggestions or ideas on where to look or how to start working on border collies and adjusting them to chickens/ducks.
We just got ducks and they are used to dogs thankfully. But my border collie has no idea how to react haha. My fault for not having him trained to clock and counter...
They are tractor supply specials.. so the sole thing I know is that they aren't mallards and they aren't runner ducks haha.
I was told they were Pekin.. but I don't think they are? Just curious what you all think or may see.
Over all doesn't matter, just figured it'd be fun to guess. I'm...
1 splash Australorp
4 new Hampshire
3 speckled Sussex
2 red cross
is what I was told these all were. Most of them I can see.. I'm assuming the black chickens in the photo are supposed to be the Sussex? I have doubts, so any idea what they could be? These were free chickens from someone who...
So recently I found myself as the owner of 2 pekin hens.. in my venture to find a drake I stumbled on someone selling some welsh harlequins. They were one of my dream ducks .. and if I am already caring for ducks. I may as well branch out and get a few.
Though I have been trying to be able to...
Yes I had read and watched countless things on what and how to mix feed. Anyone have a list of things to just look for.. For a overall balance. I know this isn't the cheapest method but I only have a handful of chickens. They get to free roam everyday, get scraps and everything. They enjoy their...
So this is the first time my hens have hatched their own chicks. Thus far one pass from a broken neck in the water bowl (that was removed and everyone is on safe watering containers for now). But now I have one of my larger chicks feeling bloated and walking, but walking oddly and sitting down a...
My silver lace cochin hatched out 7, left one late hatch and another piped egg. I had no incubator so I was changing out a damp towel for the egg and helped it a little as some of the membrane had dried from the momma leaving it open.
For now these two are inside and in a mini brooder setup...
So my coop is still slowly coming apart due to the terrible work originally done by the contractors. I was going to go forward with small claims but I'm scared now. I was told if there are any permits that were needed for the chicken coop.. that those fines would fall on me or that if there were...
So here is the original link from when I was first posting about my issues.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/need-to-vent-my-frustration-about-the-coop-we-bought.1636322/
The company finally responded to the BBB after I sent them a warning that this was my final text message to them...
It's me again, the person who's still dealing with the BBB and being ghosted by that shotty contractor .. back for more advice on how to fix xyz problem. :'D
I feel it's getting a bit too cold inside the coop during the nights and well.. winter is just getting started more or less.
Most of the...
So I had bought a long handled litter scoop but it's very small and well.. I think I want to upgrade haha. What are your all thoughts on this one I stumbled on? (I know at worse I can rig together something with hardware cloth, but I don't have any spare on hand so I'd rather not have to buy a...
My husband ans I paid nearly 3 grand for a custom coop and run to be build to house up to 10 cochin chickens. I'm not even a month into using the coop and it's starting to fall apart!
They used staples it looks like to hold the door and trim together on the main door and the chicken hatch. I'm...
Just like the title says. I've been hunting for some tool or some means to sift the sand in the coop. I'd prefer something with a long handle.. but the tools I've seen labeled as coop sifters or scoops have what I assume to be really large holes for whatever reason?!
So what do you all use or...
So I don't think over all it'll be a huge issue but I know we get some hot days where we can be up in the high 90s to 100 and high humidity. So I wanted to get thoughts or advice before we get any issues.
I'm thinking on putting in at least a exhaust fan for one of the windows on the inside...
So I have three dogs that have grown up with cats and they are fine with them (two border collies and a newfoundland). The one border collie doesn't care, she can be left with the chicks all day and would rather look at anything else or just sleep near-by. My boy though.. he's over excited about...
So I have 7 chicks, they near about have full feathers by this point and one of the smaller hens is getting picked on to where there is a small red spot now.
What can I do about this before it gets worse? They are still in the brooder box as my coop isn't quite finished. But would it be better...
I figured documenting from day one would be neat and people might enjoy it. They'll be coming in Tuesday and there should be 6 likely a few extra). All of them will be silver lace cochin so that'll be interesting. I started to get a mixed flock but the hatch dates weren't lining up so I went...
So finally got a coop and run all sorted but now I am second guessing the chicken breed I have been looking at for some time now. My plan was to get 5 hens and a roo to start with. All silver lace cochin. But I'm second guessing my plan?
I thought these would be a good starter chicken to work...
