More than likely you have queen cups, cells and eggs. You can go in and see. If you're patient you can do as Apis millifera suggested. I knew I had eggs and they took care of raising a new queen. Usually more than one. As far as the swarm, bees are on hold until the scouts find a suitable new...

Like politics, bee keeping is local. Like Saly PB said seek out local bee keepers. Easy to find as they often will have "HONEY FOR SALE" signs out. Don't stress or overwhelm yourself with too much information.

After 3 days of cool temps and rain the bees are back to work. Now at 91F they are booming and the "porch" is solid bees with partial bearding on the face of the hive. Baskets are packed full with Cranberry pollen, no smoke or suit to do a quick frame chk which was honey full. Did get whacked on...

If they were miserable yesterday they're absolutely nasty today, not even exiting the box except for a couple at a time for a cleansing flight I suspect. Wetter and cooler today. Can't get in for a chk till Thursday.

Possibility. I think the risk would be there more if I wasn't using drawn comb. They do bridge from frame to frame now, only on the wood though. Gambling, not counting, on them concentrating more on packing in the stores for winter in the heat of the fall flow. The ol' I won't know until I try. :)

Are you going with the 9 frame system in a 10 frame box. We're going to try this on our hives. See if they will draw deeper comb to store more honey. I figure it's worth a shot from what I've seen and read. Frees up 6 medium frames for a head start for the fall flow.

We were supposed to check the progress of couple's NUC that was installed 3-4 wks ago but the weather is cool and raining. They called yesterday and said the bees looked good. They are keeping them fed. Tomorrow mid 70s and sunny, bees will be anxious to get to work so we'll ride up tomorrow...

I don't think we have enough fingers and toes to count the unbelievable things we've seen deer are capable of. Things you just go WTH.

It's was early and eyes weren't clear, didn't notice it was netting. Here around the Blue Berry fields deer will actually push the livestock wire fencing for a weak spot and create a main entrance for all to have access. At one point the fence crossed an irrigation ditch and they came in...

Bees are staying close to home today, cool and raining, very little activity. I'll bet they're not in a good mood.

I have tapped on a house wall with a wooden mallet and drawn them to a box. I do have a 8' metal fence pipe. In the future I will keep this in mind.

Bees coming in with full pollen baskets. Cranberry bloom will be coming soon, all pollen no nectar from this, with an easy commute over the Cedars and drop into the bogs about 75 to a 100 yds with a 3/4 mile radius. The two established hives very strong and heavy. The split I made has really...
