Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Happy Monday everyone. Here is a mugshot from a very grumpy Tassels sitting on my arm as I haul her out of her nest to go eat scrambled egg.

You should dose as per the instructions. Those were 3-5 days and then repeat for 3-5 days in ten days time.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

It was fascinating watching them grow and fledge at such close quarters. Very dedicated parents in and out all day with food. There were three babies. The other two got the hang of flying after only a few epic fails. But there is always one!!

Yes - I think Babs has the markings of her DC parent. I really think she is gorgeous.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I don't think I could ever have bantams - I would be too afraid of harming something so tiny. When the baby Carolina Wren that hatched in my garage was learning to fly, he was on a mission to self destruct. I was always terrified I would crush him as I hauled him out of buckets and paint cans...

Piglet needs a psychiatrist. Either that, or she is born management material. She continues to do everything like a broody. She shouts a lot. Tries to intimidate everyone, and is generally disagreeable. Everything that is, except sit in a nest - she has delegated that to Tassels. She even...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Piglet has given up being broody. She still likes flaring her hackles and making a lot of broody sounds, but she is finding that being broody is interfering with her eating schedule. Tassels has definitely not given up.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Piglet (as you might expect from her name) is very good about getting up and eating regularly. I actually think her ambivalence about sitting is because it interferes with her meal times! It is Tassels who won’t get up unless I drag her off the nest. Another week and Tassels will go into broody...

Very wise. Otherwise they might start running and wake him up! Happens with my lot all the time. Looks like they are dreaming they are hunting big game on the Serengeti and then they kick themselves in the face and wake themselves up! :lau

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Piglet is conflicted Last night she roosted right next to the nest boxes leaving Tassels to keep the nest warm. In the morning she was back to full on broody. This evening she had a new version of broody which involved a lot of running around all fluffed up and going in and out of the nest box...

Poultry DVM says that the dosage of fenbendazole is 20-50mg/kg given daily for 3-5 days and then repeated for another 3-5 days after a 10 day gap (that is to get the worms that were only eggs during the first dose). The scientific studies on fenbendazole dosing (which are few) are in the same...

Oh yes. I will live to fight another day. I have to keep reminding myself that she is but a teeny tiny chicken, and I am a large and mighty chicken-servant!
