    Aging of chicken poop question

I spread the shavings and poop from my coop on my garden 3 or 4 times through the winter, last time in March. I do spread it thin though so it is not to hot on the plants. I noticed the 1st green bean leaves to show some burning but otherwise I don't see much problem.

What did you do in the garden today?

I have been weeding after the 3" of rain we got the other day. Corn has been thinned along with the carrots for the 2nd time. With the rain and now the heat the corn in spots is knee high already, zucchini are huge and tomatoes are at the top of the cages. Going to need to pick lettuce in the...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have had the problem of coon getting smart to the box trap and figured out to give them a free meal or 2 at the entrance with the door kept from closing, after a few free meals I usually get them. Makes the turkey vultures happy.

Dead chicken found up in tree

A large coon could carry a chicken up a tree, if there was no top on the run I would think hawk.

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Most of my beans are up and the corn is about the same. We get rain maybe once a week and barely enough to wet the ground. Tomatoes and zucchini are doing great along with the carrots and radishes, I think the chipmunks are chewing up my radishes though. I know the garden needs the rain which...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I had a coon taking the covers off my tender plants in the garden, I would put them on before dark and off in the morning. From there it went to the coop which is next to the garden and tried its hardest to find away in, on the rollout nest box, on the roof and run. I decided to set the box trap...

Selling eggs- people not paying for eggs

I usually give our extra eggs away to family and friends but have had this happen when selling firewood bundles at a roadside stand. I would sell 3 large size bundles for $10 or $3.50 a piece, I would put 12 bundles out at a time and it went well for the 1st couple years. Then it started...

Hen laying eggs that are not round.

1 of my Barred Rocks started laying eggs that are somewhat flat, it is like if you dropped a dough ball its still roundish but flattened. I noticed those eggs being very thin shelled. I was feeding All-flock but since the thin shells on those eggs I feed 50/50 layer and all-flock and always have...

    Do crows make trades?

I have been feeding crows for many years and still waiting for them to bring me something. When growing up we had a couple pet crows, one day the phone rang and it was the high school calling for us to come and get George because he was disrupting the football game. Another time George kept...

    First hawk attack

The only advise I have is free ranging = loss. As you saw yourself being out with them and it happened. I knew in the beginning free ranging would never work where I live due to the number of predators here. I only have 7 chickens for eggs and to lose any cuts the egg count. To me they are kind...

    Sick raccoon?

Distemper is what I thought to, distemper is what happens when the population gets out of control. With the fur prices low the hunters and trappers aren't after them and that = Disease.

    Raccoon or Weasel?

A weasel would not be able to eat much more than size of a golf ball at a time, I say coon. Sorry.
