We were in the mid to upper 90s (degF) and humid, it's now mid to upper 80s and some lower 90s. I don't know the ages of the chickens I got eggs from other than mine. Mine are just a year old. But maybe some older ones from the breeders?
Maybe heat tolerance, or maybe they're first eggs...
Yeah, the heat has tapered my girls off too.
So the potentially interesting thing about setting eggs this last weekend, only the layers who laid during this heat are getting their chicks hatched. Does this mean anything? Or just complete chance?
Ha! That's awesome.
Have you ever had Marshmallow Fluff or Marshmallow Creme? I haven't had it in years, so maybe it tastes different now, but this is the stuff kids dreams are made of 🤣
Well in that case, he is definitely my best silkie as he has the marshmallow-y-ness of any of my silkies. He is by far the biggest poof on the property!
And he's actually quite small under all that floof!
I hope to get a couple chicks from him next year. I'm just not sure what hens yet that I'll use. He has some flaws comparing him to the SOP, but, going for some genetic diversity, he's useful for that.
Lol, he's still young, about 7 months old, and he doesn't have the streamers like my other boys. But he does know how to crow, so crow he does!
I have 15 wk old boys with streamers, this guy just likes his extra fluffy head I guess 🤣
I think this is now officially Fluffy Appreciation Day!
In honor of your day and your name, here is a fluffy chicken! Where's his head and where's his tail? Not sure, he's just fluff and he's as needed in my flock as you are on BYC.
