It's shaping up to be a terrible summer.
Was 80 at 3:45am this morning! No rain but we are 100% humidity. We have heat advisory today because the index is showing to be 112 to 114.
I have at the moment counting chicks over 100. Even with my losses. In two weeks time I'll be offering up the ones we aren't keeping for sale. Will be out of town this next weekend or I would be shooting for then to try selling them.
Crawling under roost bars in the pen with my main flock getting a tarp tied down before bad weather. The happiness comes from my several roosters in this flock and the hens. They all came to see what I was doing and kept cleaning the shavings off my legs. My two oldest at 3yrs old where as usual...
LOL. I feel or resemble that wanting to do too much at once 2ndTink. I am really trying to talk myself down from all the different breeds I have and into focusing on one color. Its very very hard to do!
LOL, I started the three new out door brooders today! Told my brother I don't need to anchor them because I'm taking them down after all the babies are gone this year. He told me no you wont stop hatching and having them just anchor later but do it. LOL.
I like it. Its a bit better than mine but I'm currently working on more pens and more predator proofing because of all the influx of coons and opossums.
I like this! Working getting mine set up with three brooders in the garage! I'll have to stop hatching stuff after this last batch due early June tho. Its gotten so hot I don't think I can brood in the garage for more than two weeks now.
Your babies are so cute!
I've been having heat issues! Its been so hot that the babies need to be checked 3 or more times a day on water because of them kicking bedding into it. I'm getting some constipation in them because of this. Paying my friend to come over on my work days to check them...
Ewe coons! It's good you've not lost any birds. Hope you get everything fixed up enough to deter them.
Awwww babies!
I'm looking forward to not hatching anything else till maybe August/September. Will be getting some Spitzhauben eggs and maybe bantam polish and more silver and blue Ameraucana...
This is what I have for set up.
For just one acer of land. I think we are going to try running 4 strands on the 6 foot fencing. I have the grounding rods but need to get the wire and the hardware for attachment to the fence. Will only be turned on at night for a reason. It's way more powerful...
Cackle would be best, they have a few colors. No silver or wheaten tho. Blue is supposed to be bassed on silver as it helps keep the blue color cleaner. They have limited runs of the buff color.
