I would think it would depend on what type of predators you have. I use Nite Guard lights attached at eye level along the sides of my pen on all sides along with netting over the top. They have 6 foot chain link with netting over that to keep out wild birds. For the most part that has kept...
My two huge Rouen drakes are starting to get feisty and my friend is not taking my drakes now until late July. If I see them hurting my females they will be separated until she can come and get them. They have gotten sooooo big!!! My little Calls try to get on my girls but at least don't hurt...
You are most welcome, I did get her away from the drake for a while and she did heal up but it took a while. I didn't realize at the time that could happen or that a drake could hurt them like that. I ended up getting rid of them shortly after that as they kept flying away and I would have to...
That's what I thought I was looking at. I am surprised they can make it with that much damage done to them. I am so happy that they are still alive and seem to be doing well. I am glad that you shared this in case someone else has a situation like this and they know there is hope at least.
I had a Muscovy years ago that limped for quite a while due to a drake over mating her. I did not realize at the time that was the problem. She eventually got over it though and I pray that yours does too.
How are your ducks doing now???? I pray that they made it alright. I thought the initial wound was deeper than just the feathers missing. The picture is deceiving.
I would think with him moving his beak up and down like that, he possibly could have an impacted crop. He probably did eat some of the bedding they are on. Without a deep water dish it is hard to say if he can make it. Mine had an orange tip on the end of its beak and black and yellow...
Ducklings need a water dish that they can dunk their whole bill into so that they can clean their nares. They say that Wood Ducks will usually die around day 6 or 7. That dish is not sufficient for a duck. It has to be deeper. Also what I had read was they needed a pan of water that they...
Thanks. If my Rouen ducks had black bills and would quack I would have thought for sure they were hens but with the green bills and black rumps and peeps, I am almost positive they have to be drakes. I hope both of yours are females.
My Call ducks started out the boy being bigger than the girl. The girl had issues though and by 6 weeks she was a lot bigger than he was once I got her straightened out. They kept me guessing for a while. I have two Rouen ducks that have the green bills and black rumps and still peeping at...
Wow, that is such a deep and massive injury that I think I would cull it myself. That is just me though. If you want to try to save it a warm water rinse followed with that spray and then you are going to have to keep it inside and covered to keep it from having fly strike. I really don't...
You can also use Veterycin eye spray that you can get from Tractor Supply if you have one in your area. I do not know where you are located. That might help its eyes if they got scratched or pecked or have something in them.
