I've seen them.
It's a double recessive trait effectively.
A lot of people call them self blue etc.
They are pretty but it's double recessive and a newer color so not much variety etc. Still really pretty.
Yeah it sparked my interest. The only reason why I know so much about this is because I did a huge deep dive on Sebastopol geese and they similarly have close genetics just different expressions for recessive/dominant genes. (Grey/Buff/Blue/Lavender) and there is like a multitude of...
Yeah I'm just wondering if it's similar to the cuckoo dots where you can tell and it's a sex linked thing. (Could not be as well).
Be interesting to be able to have a sex linked BCM. I'll try and do some digging on the spotting stuff but I agree with the chick thing as it has 0 impact on adult...
Usually color expression should have some links back to something or another. IE spotting in some can be a sign of "impurity" but that is because it shows a color gene for white birds and obviously you don't want a splash to show up in your pure white birds etc.
Love to know more about it...
Imma have to go down the rabbit hole on the copper spot on chicks to see if there is any kinda of genetic link to something on it.
Unless someone else has already done that lol.
For your ones w/ headspots @wrathsfarm do you keep track of them? Or is that just a nice to have and you want to know as that typically means a possible "better" then usual bird?
I had three with dots and one blue w/ the dot as well. Just wondering if I should keep them marked so I know.
Yeah I've heard a basket out in the run or a cage helps with integrations or big scuffles. All the teenager hormones keeping them crazy lol. We don't really eat our animals, but if we have some mean roos I don't really want to introduce bad personalities back into the lines as I've had issues...
It does gives off the stance of a cockerel, but I have had many that look like them (show red combs and waddles early), but after 4 weeks no more and they start to look more and more like hens lol.
I'd say give it to week 3/4 and you'll know more with marans. But they both look like great...
I believe I have 4 roos and 5 hens lol.
The splash is kinda the biggest one but honestly love it so much. I'll have to get some of the babies outside (3 BCM/Ameracauna/Eggers).
Wrath have you had much success integrated like 4/5 week olds into your flock with only one older rooster and other...
We had three plop out. One just failed to thrive I think two broodies are fighting it out and accidentally trampled it, or it just got too hot (90 degrees and humid in upstate ny).
The BCM's I have 5 total from my egg hatch out 3 are roosters 2 are hens. Blues had 3 - total - 2 roos & 1 hen...
9 Total hatched! Sorry I have been absolutely slammed with all the new stuff going on here around the house.
Geese are literally a full time job themselves (toddlers with big brains).
1 Splash, 4 Black, 4 Blue.
I see maybe 3 roosters off my presumption and very great colors. Thank you all...
I've had success with mine sitting in my office.
They listen to me in meetings and I have visitors/dogs come up and hang out with them all the time.
I do have a hinged house set up but that is for emergencies only, and if I need to get in versus crawling through the doors I have made.
I've...
8 total out of 36.
The last one was fully shrink wrapped had to pull out the qtip and some tweezers and get em out.
I have another pip and I think that because of the low temps we will end up seeing more start either tonight tomorrow.
Anyone have issues with shrink wrapping at internal pips...
@wrathsfarm :D.
Is that the dot you were referencing on your newer babies? I think there is two others in here that might have a couple splotched over too.
First pip today! One of the BCM's seems to be saying hello. I see no others but do hear peeps. So let the hatching commence? lol. I also have a few of my Marans sitting on some that are hitting day 18 so will see what we get out in the coop :).
Nice yeah I figured maybe a day or so late for a few hours.
No pips as of yet. I think the geese are the ones plotting the downfall of the chicks since they are in the same room. (Just something to blame) lol.
Do you get much for your mixes?
I was planning on taking some down to the local...
Other incubator is in lock down now.
I have at least 6/7 that aren't developing out of it I'm pretty sure.
But it looks like the temp dropped to 95-96 overnight. I have it being heated back up as I think removing the tray/motor it turned down the heat in the box for whatever reason. I've got a...
