She is a Silver Lace Wyandotte. She is a real sweetheart and a great layer.
Her sister, Rosalee has better markings.
I wanted to breed them with Amos, a Blue Laced Wyandotte. He turned out to be extremely aggressive so we had to cull.
This photo was taken last fall.
Her name is Rachel. She was having a really rough molt.
When they molt like this some of mine try to sleep in a nest box. I will let them. Sometimes the other hens will try to pluck and eat these new feathers because they are full of blood. (Protein)
They also...
...for her. It was like they had a plan. :idunno 😆 I am sure they were laughing at me!
Meet Abigail who is not in her best feather. She has no tail, hackle and crest are thin and wing feathers missing.
Her butt is more bare than this photo shows. She needs a skirt! 🤣
**Notice her spurs?
I have seen them in a few different colors but not like this one. My first thought was "oh no a new invader".
Now I wonder if maybe he was immature.
He did emit that particular odor when I squish him.
He was a pretty color.
Abigail also has a full set of spurs!
I will get a photo of her after I finish in the garden this morning.
Speaking of stink bugs, look at this neon green one I found in the garden yesterday. I have never seen such a bright one. Looks like he would glow in the dark! He did not live long after...
Panty hose = Torture device
2 pairs in my drawer in their original package kept only for just in case.
I don't want to have to actually use them.
In the past I have had hens that dropped a lot of feathers all at once. They looked naked. Coop looked like a chicken exploded.
When they started to feather they really looked like a porcupine.
Abigail does not look too bad.
I have an Abigail too. 🤗 She is a Cream Legbar who is also molting...
My chickens eat collards this way. When I give them collards they leave these lacy looking veins and stems in the run. :lau
In my garden I would first think slugs. Beer trap?
They are another pain in the butt this time of year.
I have used the hose spraying on white fly also. A pump sprayer with water a few drops of Dawn dish soap helps too. Do it a couple times a week until you get them controled. Make sure to get the underside of the leaves.
I went to the garden this morning. So far everything seems good. I have a few more things to transplant hopefully tomorrow.
Broccoli
Cabbage
Mustard
Collards
Butterbeans still beaning 🤣
Sometimes if there are lots of aphids on the plants I will spray the plants down good with the water hose every 2-3 days. It seems to work as well as chemicals.
I will occasionally use permethrin but try to spray when the bees are not active. I don't usually see many bees on summer peas. They...
