I gave my Salmon Fav (love the breed!) girls French names.
If you don't go the Disney route, how about something that sounds Parisian -- like Antoine, Francois, Hugo, Jules, or, Louis, like so many French kings?
Will be looking forward to finding out what you choose!
Okay, I'm ready to hear if Ollie got moving, if carrot cake got baked and just how cute Trixie is! Things are gray and dull here -- at least until my sister arrives today. She surprised me Monday by announcing her intended visit. Have I got some chores lined up for her!
Since losing my duck...
Chickens, especially tiny, fuzzy, happy chickies, do have a way of changing a person's mind -- and softening their heart.
Nice set-up for those not-in-the-house chickens!
Another option could be a coyote. Coyotes are incredibly smart. As soon as you and the dogs were out of the way, a coyote would realize it had a great opportunity.
My experience is that they can slip through a barbed wire fence with ease and just as easily leap over woven 4-foot fencing or...
Congratulations on your young flock, and welcome to BYC!
There's plenty of folks here who will be happy to guide you in any way possible and always enjoy hearing about your experiences!
Aside from the lack of a carrot cake, it sounds like much has been accomplished where you live, Jim.
I got my to-do list chores done -- mucking out the duck shelter, removing dog poop from the yard and adding shredded leaves to the garden -- likely because I listed those in yesterday's post...
ADORABLE photos!!
Congratulations on beginning your life with chickens and on joining this amazing community of folks who are always willing to share their knowledge, applaud your successes and help you meet challenges.
A big BYC welcome to you, Mojo Jojo, Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles!!
Ah, Jim, I have friends who tell me they will help with projects -- and, sometimes, years later, they do.
A pole saw for the walnut branch, huh? I wish I had thought to use the one I have hanging in the garage instead of the pull saw. Perhaps I've taken a few too many branches to the head to...
Lucky you! The only time I've seen them, the lights were more like ripples of green in the sky, not the spectacular stuff.
Yesterday, I trimmed back all the peonies and hostas -- and none of the daylilies. Using a Japanese pull saw, I managed to remove a large, broken walnut branch that was...
I wish I could offer helpful advice about poor Delphine. It sounds like you're doing everything possible.
The Marek's thing is frustrating. Several years ago, an avian vet suggested a hen I had nursed through weeks of indoor treatment for frostbite and sour crop MIGHT have also had Marek's. I...
Love your hens' names ☺️
Welcome to BYC where many folks will be happy to share their knowledge with you, offer encouragement and give useful advice! Glad to meet you!!
I always enjoy your photos -- loved the perspective on the elevator cage! You take such interesting trips!
Hope you have plenty of time because this is going to be a LONG post.
Since losing Drew, I have been super vigilant about everyone's safety. Despite the recent cold, I have been keeping...
Today's to-do list includes cutting back peonies and hostas, MAYBE some of the daylilies, although there are more than I want to think about.
Following a too-short break, I have resumed coyote hazing. One appeared right up by my veggie garden, convincing me without any lingering doubt that it...
You did an extraordinary job of caring for Gobbles, who you loved unconditionally -- a true gift.
The biggest drawback to having a big heart is how much pain you feel when it breaks. Crying over his loss is a completely understandable and rational response; he cracked open your heart and it...
I understand your frustration and anger. I spent weeks earlier this year trying to get a mechanical problem with my car fixed at the local Ford dealership.
After multiple trips into town, many phone calls, cancelled appointments (by them, not me), the unnecessary involvement of my insurance...
It's good to see I'm not the only one whose "plant to-do list" has some of the same tasks on it every year.
Allegedly, it will be warm and sunny in a couple of days, maybe even hit 60 degrees. It's hard to imagine that this morning.
Blackberries went wild over summer and would need to be...
You're welcome! And, in support of my point, it's 21 degrees this morning. The chickens refuse to leave their coops. The ducks happily ran out of their warm shelter and are lying on the cold ground after dunking their heads in the water dishes.
Yesterday, it was the season's first snowfall, light and fluffy. Six hours later, the snow was slushy and ugly. Today, the leftover snow is crusty, annoying and has to be cleaned off the deck and walkways.
I like your morning view So Much Better -- green grass and adorable little chickies!!
