    Separating Broody Hen & Chicks

Maybe explain the broody chickens need a decent place to sit and you have no room for so many chicks that grow fast. Stress amongst chickens can be a killer.

    MJ's little flock

I suppose you have to do things too. Hope things get better for you soon MJ. 💚 Here the teachers complain about the nowadays students too. Mostly bc they are distracted way too much by their phones and whatnot is going on, on the (un)socials .

Invasive? This can become a nuisance bc chickens won’t eat it when the plant is toxic for them. Our garden is filled with lots of toxix plants. The tasty and healthy plans for chickens didn’t survive having chickens free ranging for 10 years. In the meantime Ivy grows too well. I don’t know...

🐔 Hens 8+ Years Old - What Contributed to Their Longevity?

I found the translation of the article behind the green button. Unfortunately the original link doesn’t work anymore bc the website of “levende have” no longer exists. Levende have was a thrust-worthy Dutch website (originally a magazine) for members and it stopped altogether last year...

🐔 Hens 8+ Years Old - What Contributed to Their Longevity?

In my search for the article/flyer ^^ I found another one who is worthwhile reading from https://www.kippen.be/hoe-oud-worden-kippen/ (belgian website/institute). I translated the most relevant part for you: Tips for Giving Chickens the Longest Possible Life As chicken keepers, we are...

🐔 Hens 8+ Years Old - What Contributed to Their Longevity?

Im convinced you hit the nail saying these two things. 1. Genetics (with genes that are not deformed for max egg laying or inbreeding for prize winning standard looks). 2. Chickens who have a short laying cycle are getting older (in general). Their bodies recover better from the egg laying...

i somehow acquired 2 runaways and i have questions. please help

Pollipazzi, Do they gave access to chick or layer feed all the time? Then it’s not bc Thelma is hungry. I would stop giving treats if one of my chickens gets aggressive when I give them treats. Or (as said) Maybe it’s something that happened in the past or somehow stress related and its better...

    do i still need predator-proofing ? (for a rooftop)

Maybe its easier to ask permission to keep 3-4 chickens (hens) in the park. ? I didn’t know you live in Turkey. Best to put that in your profile. Btw I have been to Turkey 2x. Beautiful country and very friendly people. ;)

Not a caption. Just curious. Do you consider eating more meat than necessary a luxury too?

    Found Chicks Alone

Best skip the treats for a day or two until they eat the chick feed. Making the chick feed wet helps a lot. The treats are not balanced feed and your chick get health issues if you continue to give so much treats. Start giving a little of the treats once or twice a day after they ate from the...

Finally catching up. Tax time. A gif made from a short video. And a few photos of Janice, behaving strange and restless. Pre-broody?

A bit late after all the Welsumer/summer discussions and Amsterdamned crap 💩 . But I don’t understand part of your objection. The industrial type of chickens are not real breeds, but go by a name of the ‘manufacturer’ or in general are referred to as laying hybrids. Its not impossible to breed...

About the same here, but the bluejays and magpies are not welcome. The bigger bird's that come in the run get heavily chased. The bigger bird’s only get in if the chickens free range and the door is open. Some typo’s are too good, not to repeat. :lau

Oooh, my poor tiny bantams. Weighing just about 500 grams. They sure will drop dead this very instant if absolute weight is an indicator. 😂 Gaining weight and loosing weight can be indicators according to lots of BYC-people. The colour of their comb says a lot about fertility and can be an...

8 week swedish flower hen breathing issues

A prefab coop with attached run (or similar self made) is perfect for chicks to grow up. These cost about €/$ 300 and can prevent a lot of indoor misery. The small ones are okay for about 4 chicks until they can integrate. A second coop like that comes in handy quarantining 2 new chickens too.
