Okay so I have a few like the one in my hands. Why is she a pullet? Is it because the comb is small and dark or because she doesn’t have wattles that stand out like the blue boy next to the plant?
I have a number of chicks growing with these darker combs. For some reason I was under the impression that pale or dark combs are usually pullets for any breed except AC. Can anyone chime in on this for me. Chicks are 4-6 weeks old.
Wow that is really amazing and interesting! I didn’t see that someone is breeding lavender Marans. I was shocked! Like how is that even possible. But I guess if there is a lavender gene hiding, it could come up. I’m going to check out that Silkie Lab. Thank you for the tip!!!
I added eggs at the end of the thread to show a better comparison of the eggs. Chicks from BCM and partridge hen have always been black and all 5/6 chicks in this hatch have been black. Conversely, all chicks from the splash hen with the BCM rooster in this hatch have been blue. Things that make...
I have this chart and it has been so helpful. The BCM and partridge pair have always produced black chicks. This chick is the only one to look like this. I am including the two egg color options. As a side, all chicks from the BCM and splash OE hen have been blue.
You can see that the F1OE...
Another angle…left chick is a Splash Copper Marans. Also the two chicks from the splash hen are both blue and all of the other F1OE eggs hatched black or blue chicks. Just another twist🤔
So I have been using this hen in this breeding pen for a good two months now. The chick is definitely lavender. I did have her with my Splash Ameraucana two months ago, but that wouldn’t account for the feathered legs. There has to be some kind of explanation. I’m thinking that somehow someway...
Update…here she is all dried out. I also added a photo of the two eggs that are in this breeding pen. The one on the right is from my Splash F1OE and the one on the left is from my partridge Ameraucana.
This chick definitely did not dry out to be splash or blue. It really does look like my...
Yes I actually saw it hatch with my own eyes, which was why I was SO surprised, lol. We think we know what to expect and then we have THIS, haha!! I’ve had so many lavender, splash, and blue hatch now, I can’t tell who is who. 11 more chicks to hatch and then I can’t tell inspect a bit further...
Not possible. Only combo options in that breeding pen are BCM rooster and BCM hens, Ameraucana hen, BC1OE hen. I have the egg it came from and the other egg in pics in original post 🙂
