Do you have anyone that can at least come check on them while you’re gone?
I’m far less experienced than many on here but I wouldn’t leave them alone for that long. Too many things that could go wrong.
We had our first (and second and third…) go at incubating our own eggs! The first round (incubator) are about 4 weeks old, the second round (incubator) just over a week old, and the third (under our first ever broody) due to hatch Tuesday or Wednesday.
It’s been a lot of fun!
I also bought some...
Forgot to update, but we had a huge power outage this week - all the eggs are now under broody Becky 🙏
Candled a few when I gave them to her and they were looking great!
Expecting to see some chicks Tuesday or Wednesday.
I know the gal I got her from doesn’t have any Ayam Cemani, but that’s the extent of my knowledge. I’ll do some research on Mystic Onyx and see if I can make any connections, otherwise I guess they’ll remain a mystery!
Thank you!
This chick is almost four weeks old, hatched from green egg. Dad is a blue copper marans. Photos of mom below, any ideas on her breed(s)? Mom has some dark spots on her comb, the chick’s is completely dark.
Well, we have hens to snuggle anyways 😅
We’ll be giving a roo to my FIL and he’ll want and need a mean ole thing, so maybe this one will be a better fit for him. We need a wimpier guy that won’t attack egg-collecting kiddos.
Thanks for the info!
I just read up about this on another thread.
So the idea is not letting him see us as equals or lesser than him in the flock?
ETA I have at least one, maybe two more that I suspect are roos from this hatch. I’ll try to get some pics of them tomorrow.
Would we maybe even be better off keeping...
This guy is three weeks old, from a BCM roo and Buff Orpington hen!
Of all the ones that hatched it’s by far the most friendly and outgoing, and loves to be held.
I have more in the incubator!
