    MJ's little flock

This morning's poop inspection in the roosting box showed well-formed, average sized poops. So I'll continue to assume the other hens do not have inflamed guts.

It's possible I'm over-empathising. She was enjoying her salad.

If I sweep the yard and test the soil, with remediation if necessary, I should be able to avoid heavy metal toxicity in future.

Thanks for pointing that out Bob. I'll get one of the ones on wheels instead. They're much more expensive but that makes sense when I consider how large the magnet is.

I forgot to mention the little lump of something that was in her crop has passed through.

I don't think that's going to be possible, but she will be coming home after her chelation therapy concludes, which is in 2 days. So she doesn't have to be unhappy for much longer. And the important thing is that her kidneys are working again.

I've just had the evening chat with Dr Marika and Katie's enzymes are much improved from 1500+ (unreadable by the machine) to 1100, which is a huge improvement but still not good enough. Katie did some 'normal' chicken poops this afternoon too, and that's wonderful news! Sadly, she has to...

    MJ's little flock

Yes, she's improving but unhappy. I'm looking forward to hearing about her enzymes and kidneys when Dr Marika calls again. I thought there was a moment in the video when she appears to squeeze herself. Maybe that's from her gut hurting her.

That's an excellent idea. There's always someone on the beach with their metal detector. Next time I see someone I'll ask them how much to do the yard. I'll do the magnet sweep up too.

I think I'll order one of these and see how I get on. https://magnet.com.au/products/heavy-duty-telescopic-magnetic-pick-up-tool-pull-force-6-80kg

Now Katie no longer has an IV, I'll ask if Christa can stay with her.

Btw, I recall you advising me to use a magnet long ago. I should have done so.

I think she's a bit down and wary.

I'll do all I can, but the chickens dig deep sometimes.

    MJ's little flock

I've just seen Katie and had a chat with the nurse. She has gained weight since commencing treatment. Her poops are improving, which is great news because we want her to be able to poop solids. She's off her IV now! So that's good news too. But she's rather unhappy and clearly still...

I'm thinking there will be a lot of clogging up and also really tiny pieces.

    MJ's little flock

That's good to know. I'll see what options are available to me. I may be able to hire a metal detector if I can't find strong magnets.

Well, Dr Mark's set up was pretty good but this new vet's clinic is really next level. 3 consulting rooms. Ample hospital boxes. Loads of equipment. I just hope they're not over capitalised because I want them to stay in business for a good long while!
