Well, it's been an interesting weekend. Ran into my neighbor at the grocery store on Friday. He's an old retired guy who buys eggs from me. Said that his daughter gave him 4 hens that someone no longer wanted (a COVID buy, I suspect). He has no coop, no pen, nada. Doesn't even have food for...
My spaghetti squash harvest... All my plants are now dead. I'm debating if I want to start more or not. This is enough squash to last me all winter...
Does anyone know if cushaw will ripen off the vine? I've got a large one that's still yellow but the SVB have killed the plant it was attached...
Thank you! I think that looks very similar... My gut says this is cancer. Makes me very sad because I'm very attached to this old gal... 😭 I guess the best I can do is make her comfortable and enjoy whatever time we have left... And wait to see if the poultry vet ever responds. 😕
This is a different bird. That bird from last month ended up passing away shortly after. On that thread, I posted the response from the poultry vet on the likely cause. That looked like internal tumors or something in her reproductive/vent area. She didn't present this hard, black, dry...
It shouldn't hurt your chicks... I'd just use it around the perimeter of the nesting box though to deter ants from getting to where the broody and chicks are
Pulling this thread out of the dustbin...
I have a 7 year old BO hen that has developed this issue. She has had it for several weeks but I was unable to catch her until now. She has no other spots or lesions anywhere on her. No other chickens have it either. She is eating and drinking just...
I've found that moving the broody using means she abandons the eggs or tramples the chicks in her panic. Do you have diatomaceous earth or something organic you can put around the perimeter of the nesting box to deter the ants?
Yeah, that's probably my next step but I have to get on a rotation locally to get fresh cream. Store bought whipping cream has carrageenan which I avoid because it can cause inflammation, digestive problems, cancer, etc...
Nope... Maybe over 20 years or more. After moving to a new place, I've built 3 coops of various sizes. I've probably spent $2500 - $3000 collectively. Those coops house anywhere from 60 - 80 chickens, depending on the year, and up to 12 ducks. Then there's feed costs which are easily...
Oh, I get it... After not having chickens for many years, I suddenly brought home 6 chicks from the feed store. I ended up spending a hundred and some odd dollars to buy one of those cute little chicken coops on Wayfair. Realized a few weeks later that it was going to be WAY too small. BTW, did...
Yeah, but it's the potato vs po-tat-o argument. I still find it deceptive marketing. They do the same thing with MSG and other bad stuff.
I read a few days ago that Texas passed a law to outlaw like 40 food preservatives and chemicals that are outlawed in pretty much the rest of the world...
Made 4 pints of spicy garlic dill pickles this afternoon. I also had 2 rather large pickling cukes so I decided to try an experiment... I made up the same spicy garlic mix, put the pickling cukes in a mylar bag with the spices, pickling mix, etc... And sealed it. Put it in the refrigerator to...
...was like working in a sauna. My clothes were so wet from sweat that they were dripping! And I was covered in dirt and had bugs dive bombing me...
***shudder***
I swear that a shower never felt so good. I even used a sugar scrub to help get the feeling of sweaty, dirty grime off... Followed...
