Of course I am worried about my chickens. But I adopted the drake from a good friend and knew all about his behavior. He doesn’t even mate with all four ducks and the chickens are staying far away from them. The chickens also have access to the run through a tunnel the ducks haven’t figured out...
We are listing our house and moving in less than a month so adding an additional run for the ducks just doesn’t make sense but when we move, we’ll have a perfect set up for them.
The integration actually went perfectly because the chickens are so scared of the ducks they aren’t messing with...
My ducks are going to be here soon and I’m wondering what the best option is for introducing them. Should I let the chickens out into the yard while the ducks explore the coop and run? Keep everyone in the coop and run? Everyone free to go anywhere??
I think that’s a great idea.
I know chickens instinctively go to roost at night and then I close the coop up so I’m hoping the drake will lead his girls to safety at bedtime. Unless I will be crawling through the chicken tunnel from the run to the coop to get them in for the night 😂
Thank you so much!!! I don’t have a wire enclosure large enough for 5 full grown ducks so I thought about just letting them be in my yard together, or letting the chickens in the yard while the ducks explore the run and coop.
I have a serious dilemma. Here’s the backstory 😂
I currently have 12 chickens in a coop and run with plenty of room for more. I am adopting 2 ducks from a friend, but temporarily watching all 5 for her (one is a drake).
We are planning on moving end of April early May.
I am taking the ducks...
This is my current setup so I was thinking of adding a duck coop to the left and then creating an entrance into the run (they don’t have access to that brown shed, there’s an exit in the coop and then a tunnel that runs behind and next to the shed)
I’ve actually heard about the horror of a drake trying mate with a chicken. Is it an option to just get female ducks?
I was wondering if I should look into getting the ducks their own coop and then they share the run. I’ve witnessed first hand many times how mean chickens are! And I have 12 of...
Hi! I am looking to integrate ducks with my chickens but not sure the best way to go about it (or if this is the right thread?). I have a large coop and large run and I wasn’t sure if the ducks needed their own coop or if they could all share? I do have a kiddie pool for the ducks in the summer.
I did google! There’s one but it says like $60 for a silkie 🙄 I think I’m actually leaning towards ducks now anyways! I like high egg producers because my family alone eats 10 eggs a day lol
Hi! I’m looking for some white eggs for my flock and I thought it’d be fun to add some silkies. I am also open to ducks….. I would just need to make adjustments for the ducks (silkies not so much).
Thanks!
Hi everyone! I am looking for silkie chicks for this spring. I want a white egg layer and I thought it’d be fun to add silkies! Are there any breeders here in Colorado?
