Dog attack, how to help my poor girl (graphic pictures)

Hi all, Today my poor Minnie had a fight with a neighbor's dog. The dog tore her up pretty badly. Her skin is ripped open from halfway down her back all the way to her tail, and the dog chewed into the muscle right above her tail/into her thigh. I brought her in, cleaned the wound and...

    Need prayers and support, please

Hi all, I need some prayers and support. My boyfriend recently left me and our son. He never really gave me a good reason, just decided that after eight years the relationship wasn't worth fighting for. He moved in with his mom's second ex-husband (yes, dysfunctional relationships run in his...

Should my mechanic pay for these repairs?

Hi all, Today we went to our county fair. We were on our way home, DBF was driving. He applied the brake to make a left hand turn, and suddenly the rear passenger brakes started making a horrific noise. It sounded like the whole thing had come loose. We made it home just fine, but every time...

    Good way to mark babies?

Hi all, I just had an okay hatch, but some of the babies appear to have some problems. I don't want them to be part of my breeding stock, but I do want them to reach 6 weeks if possible. So is there a good way to mark these babies so that I can tell them apart from the others? Some of them...

    Baby coturnix with hip issue

Hi all, I am in the middle of a pretty good hatch. One of my babies seems to have something wrong with its hip. It won't stand up and usually sits with the leg sticking straight out in front of it. The hips look abnormal as well. It seems to otherwise be active and alert, and it can scoot to...

Scully's first egg!! :D And a question (question answered!)

Hi all, Well it finally happened! My sweet Scully finally laid us an egg! It has a slight pink tinge to it. I was so happy, I petted her and cooed over her for about 20 minutes, and gave her some cracked corn as a treat. Anyway, here's my question. She has spent most of today in...

So upset, need to vent somewhere... >:(

I am so angry I could just scream. My boyfriend's dad bought a local business a few months ago. He "hired" my boyfriend to be the manager. I say "hired" because he never paid my boyfriend. The previous owners committed fraud when they sold the place, by selling it while knowing that the...

    A question about coturnix colors

Hi all, Recently I bought some coturnix eggs from a breeder. I placed my order online but went to pick up the eggs at her house. When we were discussing the sale, I mentioned that there are a few colors I am most interested in breeding, and asked if I could just buy those specific colors. She...

    Mothball smell and wool blankets

Hi all, I was lucky enough to get some lovely wool blankets from a very nice lady on freecycle. Unfortunately, one of them just reeks of mothballs. I washed it twice, and it helped, but didn't get rid of the smell. Are there any good tricks to getting smells out of wool? Thanks!

Coturnix roo with a neck wound, what to do?

Hi all, I have 3 coturnix quail, 2 of which turned out to be roos. They have been fine with each other up until the last few days, just occasionally chasing each other around the pen. But this morning I noticed blood on the neck of my a&m. I pulled both roos out of the pen, and the pharaoh is...

    My babies

Hi all, thought I'd post some pics of my babies. This is almost all of the critters that we have, except for the other 2 quail and 3 rabbits. My son holding our pharaoh coturnix, giving him kisses. We also have an italian and an a&m, and some reds in the bator... My baby and Scully the...

    Practicing the egg song?

Hi all, I have a silkie hen, not sure how old, who has started singing the egg song this week. Will a hen practice the song before she starts to lay, or could she be 'encouraging' our neighbor's hens? I haven't found any eggs yet and was just wondering if i should be keeping an eye out.

    Locking down, but little hope

Hi all, Today is my first lockdown, even though i'm not even sure why i'm doing it. I started with 16 coturnix eggs, 13 made it through power outages and wierd weather and a well- meaning boyfriend who turned my homemade forced air incubator up to 107. I float tested them yesterday and they were...

    Chicken 'purrs' at me now

Hi all, I have a silkie hen that I've been keeping with my quail. She doesn't have any other chickens to mingle with yet, since my babies are only 2 weeks old. Today since it was so hot i brought all my animals inside. I gave Scully (the silkie) a bath because she just looked miserable. As i was...

Guess what I picked up from the post office this morning? :D (Pictures)

Got a call this morning that my babies are finally here! 2 easter eggers, 2 speckled sussex, and 2 silver cuckoo marans. All came through healthy and happy and peeping like crazy, no pasty butts or anything. Now if they can survive my 4-year-old, they're all set.

My coturnix are starting to crow! :)

Hi all, I recently got six coturnix quail, and I have been spoiling them rotten ever since. It is my first experience with these little guys and I just adore them! Today my pharaoh coturnix let out his first crow, and my mom was even here to hear it! I am such a proud quail momma, my little...

Brooding chicks in summer, first-timer questions

Hi all, I have six day-old chicks coming the week of the 18th. This will be our first experience brooding babies. I had planned to put the brooder in a bedroom upstairs, since I have a very curious 4-year-old and would like to keep him from harassing the chicks to death. But our upstairs can...

    My Hutch Coop

Here is the "hutch-style" coop I just finished. Like most things I build, it is a little lopsided and nothing is completely square, but it does the job. Right now it is housing my six coturnix and our silkie Scully. "hutch" style coop off the ground, provides shade and shelter, with an...

    Stopped lurking, finally joined! :)

Hello from Ohio! I've been thoroughly enjoying all the info available on this site for a few months now, but I've decided to bite the bullet and join, lol! I don't have any birds yet, but I'm getting 2 easter eggers, 2 speckled sussex, and 2 silver cuckoo marans next month. I'm also picking up...
