just wondering if you have any personal experience with sexing by leg feathers. What I mean is:
If you have a clean legged roo and a feather legged hen would their chicks be sex-able with regards to the leg feathers? Would all the clean legged chicks be roos and all the feather...
I can't have roosters.
But I would love to be able to get feathers that are long, colorful and beautiful.
Any breed of hens out there that can compete with roosters in the feather department?

For those of you taking notes on rooster fertility (like I was)--
My Buff Orpington roo hatched May 17th and runs with a year old Buff Orp hen.
I have been checking for fertility since he turned 3 months old.
And now as of September 1st -- He's fertile! Yay!! I check the eggs by placing them...
I just saw my Buff Orp strolling through the Ivy and as she was going along she was picking up dead leaves and placing them on her back. Of course the leaves just fell right off, but I had never seen her do this before- so funny. Then I had a closer look and she had apparently just laid an egg...

I have screwed up my hatch - humidity way too high for too long.
Air cells the size of day 7 or smaller even. Got 11 eggs on day 16. All are alive.

The latest edition of "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" (pub. 2010) states on p284 (very last sentence): "Eggs need not be turned after the 14th day of incubation, and should not be turned during the last 3 days before the hatch...".
Has anyone done this? Tried lock down at just 14 days...
