Do you have to be NPIP to sell chicks or started pullets for the spring show? Just wondering what the process is. Considering selling birds this spring
I have a bully in my pullet pen.....I was wondering how difficult pinless peepers were to use. I just need 1 set, but do you need anything special to place them?
I am curious about the final feather color of chicks from a specific combo. I had a blue Marans rooster with gold leakage. He came from a blue cuckoo roo over a blue marans. He covered a sapphire hen (crested cream legbar over a white leghorn). I let a broody hatch out 2 of her eggs. The first...
I am gifting my nieces with pullets next week. My question is: I have a February 9th hatch that yielded just 2 pullets. And I have the Easter HAL that yielded 8 pullets. The two flocks have never met without a fence. Do you think that just adding the two older pullets into the Easter HAL flock...
I hatched out 22 chicks in my brinsea yesterday. My Silkie has been broody for over a month. I think she will take chicks, but should I just give her all of them? Do you just tuck them in overnight and walk away? I have her in a smaller enclosure within the main coop. There are 20 adults there...
Hi all! A couple years ago I recall someone mentioning that they send a feather off of their Silkie chicks to a lab for sexing. Does anyone do this? I have just three chicks I would like to do this with, so the cost shouldn't be too bad.
I am officially addicted. I just wrapped up my first hatch in a brinsea advance 20 with the autoturner. Do people have success stacking eggs in these? I figure that eventually some eggs get pulled for various reasons. So does it make sense to stack some extras to account for some inevitable losses?
So I am thinking of pulling the trigger on getting an incubator. I would like a "set it and forget it" type. Ok with spending a couple hundred, but only for a good one. Are there any that don't require a bunch of tinkering?
I have a friend who just started in the bourbon business. She is willing to give us all the spent grains I want. Anyone here feed primarily spent rye and corn?
I have a first time brood mille fleur d'uccle raising frizzle polish chicks. Now that they are about 10 days old and growing out their feathers she is ripping out their wing feathers and making them bleed. I sprayed their wings with Blue Kote, but she still is picking at their wings...any ideas?
I was given some chicks back in mid December (long story). I was wondering since they are feathered out if it possible to start getting them transitioned out with the big girls....
I work at a veterinary hospital and about two weeks ago thursday,a gentleman arrived with a jack o lantern containing six chicks. He claimed he found these perfectly fluffy, no wing/tail feathered chicks in a vacant house that he was showing as a realtor. We didnt buy his story, but i took the...
