The Mid-TN BYCers are getting together at a poultry show in April. I know there are general BYC T's but I thought it might be nice to be able to add a regional name to the design. I can do the artwork but I don't want to step on any trademark or copyright laws.
Could someone show me how you wire this thermostat in and what other parts are needed to make it work. Please use layman language or explain the definitions of any electrical jargon.
I have a weak pullet. I had a younger roo chick (5 weeks) with the same symptoms but he died last night.
I first noticed the pullet lying over on her side and took her in and force fed her some sofented pellets in sweet acidopholus milk. I also made her drink. She perked up and I put out with...
I have two young chickens (1 roo, 1 pullet) who are listless and not eating but just a little. They have lost weight and their brestbones are bony. I took the pullet out and offered her water and food separate of the others and she drank a little water and picked at the food. She did perk up...
My incubator has a week to go but I had some Lemon Cuckoo Marans and some Americanas in a friends incubator. Disaster struck. She came home to find that for unknown reasons the temperature had plunged to 65˚ F. (My best guess is a temporary power outage.) All of her eggs died and all of mine but...
I know this is a hatching thread but I figure the people that might be most interested in this would be on this thread. So...
I am traveling from Nashville, TN to Akron, Ohio and back the 14-17 of May. Is anyone interested in having eggs or chicks transported along this route for the same...
I am traveling from Nashville, TN to Akron, Ohio and back the 14-17 of May. Is anyone interested in having eggs or chicks transported along this route for the same money that you would pay the Post office but with superior care taken of your eggs/chicks? I have suggested this to my DH and he is...
I was thinking on how to lay out some of the pens I want and I suddenly thought about the space under the ramp and deck off the back door. Would that work as a run for chickens or quail? Would I gravel it? The system I am thinking of setting up is based on a recent article in Mother Earth News...
This is my first hatch with anything and it is a homemade incubator. We have had cold nights so I have had temp swings between 95 and 104. I have just taken to staying up all night and sleeping during the part of the day that the temps are more stable. I am definitely replacing the water heater...
I was reading some of the threads here on the types of quail. Over on Ebay they have some Mexican speckled and some TN Reds but I haven't heard anything about them here. Dose anyone know what they are like?
I have my incubator running and the ants have invaded! They are not harming anything at the moment but I am afraid they could be detrimental to the chicks when they hatch.
I have 2 Accutemp themometers. One mercury and the other digital. the mercury reads 8˚ cooler than the digital and has so for 18 hours of checking. Which one do I believe?
I was wondering if bantams hatch faster than standard. I have read here of some setting quail eggs up with chicken eggs but I thought that they hatched in 17 days. How do you do that? How do you incubate with duck eggs or goose eggs with chickens?
I find these birds fascinating. Can anyone tell me what is special about raising quail? What are the ways to house them? What are they like themselves? My property is mostly on a fragile soil area and although I am petitioning to raise some chickens on the 1/2 acre that is flat and fertile (not...
There are several thermometer/hydrometers currently up for sale on ebay. Can anyone take a quick look at them and let me know which would be the best one to buy?
