This morning I found this in the poop board from one of my year & 1/2 old hens. I've never seen anything like it before in my 3 & 1/2 years of raising chickens. It looks like intestines. It doesn't look like the pics of intestinal lining shed on the chicken poop chart.
Does anyone know...
Here is my situation: I have a 2 year old laying EE that eats layer pellets, 3 nine week old EE pullets, and 2 six week old EE pullets that are just finishing up their Purina chic starter/grower (20% protein). The hen is separated w/ chicken wire from pullets but it is time to take away the...
This is 3 week old Annabelle, purchased as a pullet from a feed store. She looks like a pullet to me w/ the traditional coloring, has a small comb, and thin legs. However her body is more elongated than her sisters and her tail feathers grew in so much faster than the others. I wouldn't have...
We only had two 25 month old pet EE hens raised from a few days old that were best of friends. 2 1/2 weeks ago one was stolen, there was evidence it was most likely by kids from the high school that butts up to our property, and looks like it happened in the middle if the night. We were...
Our hen quit laying eggs 3 days ago and I just discovered she has been sleeping in the nesting box which we don't want.
When we forced her out she fought like heck to stay in when normally they are easily shewed out so we blocked it off because in the past we have had problems w/ them...
I am raising my 2nd set of chicks and have had a bad situation come up that didn't happen the 1st time. Two years ago we got 2 EE pullets for our children's Easter baskets to raise as pet chickens. Sophie and Eva have always been the best of friends and we could barely tell who was more...
I was recommended by the feed store to use pine tar instead of Blue Kote because it has the benefit of tasting nasty. I'm afraid if I use Blue Kote even though the blood won't be seen that she will still be pecked at in that area because it looks strange w/ her feathers missing. Does anyone...
When I went inside the coop today there was a lot of bright red dried blood all over (not in the stools, just by itself). I have two 21 month old hens. Even though both were acting normal and didn't have blood on them, I think I know which one it is because of the location on the perch. There...
I just gave my EE's their second dose of Safeguard (fenbendazole), today is the 10th day from the 1st dose. I accidently gave the 1st hen 1 cc instead of the 1/2 cc it called for! Is their anything I need to do and should I be concerned?
She stepped in poop and then a feather or two and it is stuck on the bottom of her foot. I just found this tonight and it happened sometime in the last 24 hrs. I thought I could just get it off w/ my hand but when I tried to remove the feather it pulled and clearly was frozen. Hopefully I...
One of my 10 month olds is going through what appears to be a hard molt. She quit laying about a week & 1/2 ago and there were some feathers about. Yesterday I found 90 some, today 130 some and that was just in the coop, who knows how many in the run.
I am surprised this is happening...
This is my 1st Winter w/ chickens and have used artificial light to keep them laying regularly. After reading the current article "Chickens & Winter Egg Laying and Lighting"on the home page I've decided to stop giving artificial light and let them lay naturally. I thought all was well until I...
We have some chopped peanuts that we haven't eaten and will just get wasted. I was wondering if there is any reason that I shouldn't give them to the chickens?
When I cracked open an egg today it had a pea sized red (like blood) spot on the yolk. Also there was some pink liquid (blood?) in it. I've heard of this but never have experienced it myself. I'm wondering what does it mean and is it safe to eat though I doubt I could stomach it. If I...
I know pineapple is not a citrus fruit, however it is very acidic. I threw the trimmings in the run but they don't seem very interested. Is it bad for them?
~~We've just arrived home from a 9 day vacation. It is the 1st time we've left our two pet pullets. The one that has muffs and a beard no longer has them! Her bare white skin is exposed on her cheeks and neck. I'm pretty sure she's not molting because she isn't missing any other feathers, there...
